Hi,

Below, see XP virtual machine configuration Error Msg. indicating: "User does not have sufficient access rights".

Yet the next image: "Never notify me when", indicated I am at the lowest UAC level. Or are the lower levels represented by Easter Eggs?

Also, note the Windows XP mode is installed, but because of the XP virtual machine configuration msg above, I can't go further.

I have Googled this situation to no avail. Found a few vague postings but they have lead to dead ends.

Any help, suggestions will be much appreciated.

cheers,

klxdrt

First, the window shown in your first screenshot looks very strange. It does not belong to latest Virtual PC / Windows XP Mode. Second, installing XP Mode does not produce a dialog as that screenshot shows.

If you just follow XP Mode installation procedure it installs the base vhd on C:\Program Files and user vhd on C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines (default locations) without prompting for user rights after the initial UAC prompt shown when setup is launched.

That being said, the UAC error message you receive is completely normal when trying to save / create something on system folders. By default it is forbidden; a user has not permission to save / create anything on system folders, Program Files in this case. Other "forbidden" folders are Windows, PerfLogs and ProgramData, as well as Program Files x86 on 64-bit systems.

So, you need to take ownership of the Program Files folder or create your vhd on another location.
