Hi world,

I have Win7, latest updates, Office 2007. I found a new place to store my contacts. I moved or copied, don't recall which, the folder to my desktop for easier access. Since then I have entered many contacts.

Recently my Son gave me a new smartphone, a ZTE ZMAX, still learning how to use it. I wanted to copy over my contacts folder to the device, I think it's called an android, those of you who are savvy of todays technology already know it did not take.

HOWEVER, since doing that I can no longer access my files from my desktop, everything is still there, everything looks normal, however when I go to click on a name to open that file, I get the following messages:

wab.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk4\DR4.
Cancel Try Again Continue

Than I also get:
Windows Contacts
An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book.
OK
I tried hooking the device back up to the pc, thinking I copied or transferred something vital to run or open the program into the phone, however, I get the same thing.

UPDATE: I just found that I CAN delete files from the folder, however, I CANNOT ADD new files (names).

I have a lot of information there, I hope I can restore everything with your kind help.

Thank You,
Mrs. Duvarek

Hi Chordd, welcome to 7F! :)

Having Office 2007 you most likely have the Outlook application that is using the .wab file, it would help if you could verify that.

Can you open Outlook? If you can try running the office diagnostics:

  • On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
  • Click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.
  • Follow and accept any prompts, close out the diagnostic and see if you can now access those .wab files on your desktop.

If you can't open any part of Office you can run Office Diagnostics from the Start menu.

  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Diagnostics.
  • Follow and accept any prompts, close out the diagnostic and see if you can now access those .wab files on your desktop.

No luck

Hi Anak,

TY for the welcome and your attempt at helping. However, no such luck. I can't seem to locate Outlook. I went to start, typed in Outl, that's as far as I got when ONE link came up "Go online and get Windows Live Essentials". DL'd that and STILL NO OUTLOOK. Looking at my original case that the Office Home & Student 2007 disc is in, it only offers Word, Excel, PowerPnt & 1Note. From what I recall over the years, Outlook is not freeware, and I know I have never purchased it as there are so many FREE mails already in existence.

Next idea please. Also, it was Read Only, I just unchecked that to the folder and all subfolders.

I'm just at witts end with this.

Thank You

Nevermind, I found Outlook, in Hotmail, windows live, was looking in the wrong place. Nothing there either, I think this Contacts is a system program, not Outlook related.

I'm no Office user or cell phone user but what it sounds like to me you used Move To instead of Copy to. So your information is not on your desktop.

Going to a restore point before all this happened might help.

This tutorial by Brink should be helpful if you care to try.

I do use a cell phone, but don't have recent experience with Office.

If a system restore doesn't help, you will have to do a reinstall of Outlook, but before you forge ahead with that let us know because it has steps to follow to do it correctly.

Thank you

Gentlemen,

Thank You so much for your help and giving of yourselves from the heart. I volunteer in my town often and have been doing so every opportunity I have. Nice to see that there are still a Few Good Men left on planet earth.

The System Restore that I didn't want to do did the trick. Of course now I have other minor glitches, like Chrome as unresponsive, I know how to and have uninstalled and reinstalled it.

Now on to other tasks including the one that brought me here, trying to get these contacts into my Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and my ZMAX phone device. I'll ring those manufacturers, let them help me as I am supporting them, grin.

Thank You kindly again.

I'm wondering how I got quoted and lines were drawn through things that was not in my original post.

Glad to hear the restore worked!

You might be able to transfer your contacts using an SD or SIM card, but you would need the Tab3 to be able to copy the contact file onto one and then transfer from either card through file management, import/export, to the phone.
I would suggest to contact the ZMAX phone company first since its their phone you want to import to.

You will have to take both devices in and the customer rep may be able to use the card from the Tab3 to import into the Zmax, as they have special tools to do the transfer.
Some phones are notorious for not allowing transfers of any kind.

Is yours from T-Mobil? I found my suggestion here: https://Contact management: ZTE ZMAX | support.t-mobile.com

LB,

On occasion when I need the original poster to focus on an area within the quote I will embolden and underline text then use the strike-threw to signify that they can ignore that part of the quote.

I can modify a quote, you can modify a quote although, technically it's no longer a quote. Yours is all there, I just modified it.

I would prefer my post under the title of a quote to be exactly that a quote. Unmodified.
