Waking from Sleep Mode

My system goes to sleep after 20 minutes just the way I want it.
The problem comes from waking it up to perform scheduled tasks.
I run a weekly scan using McAfee which doesn't wake up my system, so I have to come up with a method of making sure my machine is awake at the scheduled time.
I also run a scheduled backup of my system, so the impact is felt here too.
Currently before the scheduled tasks run, I change my power setting to never go to standby (I forget the actual phrase, but you know what I mean), but that seems drastic. There must be a way of waking up my maching prior to a scheduled event then after the event go back to sleep.
Any help out there??
