Wallpaper will not change to slideshow on Windows 7

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and right-clicked on Properties on "My Computer" to get the System Specs I inputted on my User CP.

If you have not replaced original hardware, here's what you didn't find:

- Mother board: Aloe H-RS880-uATX
- Sound card: Integrated Realtek 888S
- PSU (Power Supply Unit): 300 W

Case & cooling standard HP issues.

Good. I needed to make sure that you didn't have the starter version.

Had you used any one of the three suggestions I made re system specs, you would have had your answers for some of the unknowns.

PSU is an abbreviat9ion for Power Supply Unit.

Now to your problem.

Did you perchance use one of those super-duper speedup-cleanup your computer programs?

Did you disable Aero?

Can you choose an Aero theme from the Personalize screen?

Sorry, must have missed the suggestions? I am still trying to figure out how to use these forums, the posts take up a lot of view space on my browser.

Not that I am aware of. I DID install some video codec programs, like ffdshow, Divx, uh...Xvid...uh....oh yeah Matroska (I like watching movies on the PC and the default vid player like Media Player does NOT like some of the files I use (movie files I mean)

Not that I am aware of...don't even know how to enable OR disable it? Aero...isn't that like the default theme of Windows 7?

Yes, I can choose it, however, when I select it, nothing happens, even after I reboot.

Now, on to the problem. I do not remember which one of those things you've iinstalled has caused the problems, but alarms are going off in my head about one of those causing exactly the problem you are seeing.

Please download, install and use RevoUninstaller to remove those programs, one by one, until you find the guilty party.

When you do, be sure to choose the Advanced scan option.

After you have a stable system again, I'll make a couple of suggestions to help you undo the actions of wayward programs.

Ah, well I apologize, then, for not seeing your previous post. I will try what you suggested here and let you know what happens. May not respond back tonight tho, getting kinda late over here and need to wake up early to feed kids.

I had some strange Aero-problems with Matroska which came in some (don't remember which) codec-package when using RC last year. I remember I had to uninstall that codec-package to get Aero to work. Downloaded and installed VLC then, it plays everything without extra codecs.

OK. I suggest starting with the program that Kari mentioned, Matroska.

Would be nice if that is the guilty party, then you would be able to solve the problem easily and quickly.

Okay get THIS. I un-installed the file and nothing happened. I just re-installed it and again, nothing. Back to square one. Now, get THIS: I was able to FINALLY change my Wallpaper but it is ONLY successful if I select an image from the internet by right-clicking and "set desktop background"? If I try to do the exact same thing from within my PC, from within one of my folders...the command and drop down menu comes up but then NOTHING happens, no image change on the wallpaper, even if the exact same image, same image file, exists in BOTH my PC Folder AND on the internet! What the heck could this be/mean? Weird!

A long shot, but no harm if doesn't work, and good to have on your PC. Try taking ownership of the wallpapers folder.

Now, if I "Preview" the image in Photo Viewer and try it from there, it says "internal error, image cannot be set as background". This error message happens in Photo Viewer no matter WHICH image file I preview and try to set as background from WITHIN MS Photo Viewer.

P.S. Do I also merge the "Remove Take Ownership" registry entry? I just merged the "Take Ownership" one, the first one?

Just the take ownership. The remove is to...well remove it You might try Irfanview again, and right click the exe and run as administrator. Did you try downloading a new image to, say, desktop, and try to set that? Have you tried turning UAC off to see if that will allow you to set a wallpaper? Sorry, grasping at straws as it is an oddity peculiar to that particular user. A Guy

Excellent! I always use Irfanview to set my walls. The slideshow would require fixing your original problem...and I'm afraid I've failed at that
