Solved Want to buy another set of cmz8gx3m2a2133c11r and have some questions.

Hey all, I currently have a set of cmz8gx3m2a2133c11r and want to get another set. now iv heard stories about people buying same sets and them not working well together as they were bought at different times. My question is if i get them at newegg vs anywhere else will it matter as they should all be the same timings and i guess if they don't work i could rma them all (all 4 sticks) to corsair and have them made all the same since they are lifetime warranty. I would like them all to just work together from the start though. I have attached what my current setup is.

No it won't matter where you get them. It may make a difference with the time between when yours was made and the new set. The chips could be made differently and till have identical spec, timings, voltage, frequency, etc. It is best practice to get RAM all at the same time, preferably in a kit, 2x8GB, 4x8GB and so on. They make sure all the individual chips on each DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) perform identically as possible. Each DIMM has 16 of them.

In a 4 stick set then, there are 64 chips which must be nearly the same, this also accounts for the higher cost of kits as opposed to separate DIMMs. In general it is better to have sets but you are off to a running start buying the same model and brand. The only way to tell if they are OK is to install them and run memtest for 7-10 passes on the full complement of them.

You will probably be OK. Corsair is a top rated RAM and I suppose has good quality control.

Thanks will take memtest into consideration. Although some late Christmas funds came to me and I decided to pick up a gtx 780 instead lol well just have to have less tabs in chrome for a while and get a 16gb kit later. Demonators should work in my board.

If the above is still your current system spec then adding 2 more sticks will slow the memory speed. The 990fx board with all four rows populated will normally set memory to 1366, you may get as high 1600+/-. You can find more info at ROG in the sabertooth section. Your 8350's memory controller is better than average at 2400, some struggle to get 1866 with 2 rows populated.

On the positive side the increase in total memory offsets the decrease in memory speed.

my memory is set to xmp so that is not an issue my board will keep it at what i set it too and it is no longer at 2400 its at what my attached pictures show. I am confident if the sticks will work together that I will have fine speeds, im going to getting probably a set of dominators though as 32GB is what I can actually use since I run a lot of VM set ups for work. thank you for the input though, iv been able to get them to 2420 with crap timings but that is not very stable obviously.

Does the 8350 support XMP? For a long time only Intel boards/chips could use it.

Anyway I think it's a good choice to upgrade the GPU instead.
