Want to overclock my CPU but mobo won't allow......

My PC is staring to struggle a bit and it could really do with a new cpu as well as mobo, but times are hard and if the truth be known it isn't so bad that I have an overwhelming urge to run out and buy one,but the need is still there.

The thing is though my bios settings on my mobo wont allow me to alter the voltage going to my CPU and as such I cannot overclock my CPU.

Is there anyway I can get my BIOS to allow me to give my CPU more power and as such overclock my CPU?

My CPU is a Pentium Dual Core 2.2 Ghz, and the mobo is a Foxconn 45gm.

Best to not mess with the voltage unless absolutely nescessary. As stated above, use the multiplier and the bios will handle the other settings for you. If you want to overclock to the level of voltages then you will need a different motherboard most likely. You could check for updated bios but it probably won't get you the access you want.

The speed of your CPU is determined by the base clock times a mulitplier. For instance a 2800 MHz processor might have a base clock of 133 MHz and a multiplier of 21 = 2793 MHz. On some motherboards, including yours I believe, you can raise the multiplier and or base clock to get a higher CPU speed.

However, if you have to ask the question, then you shouldn't mess with this until you have read up extensively. More speed generates more heat. And in order to run at higher speeds you may have to increase voltages to get the system stable. This in turn generates more heat and the risk of damaging your processor from either heat or too much voltage or both. In general the Fan+heat sink that came with the CPU won't be adequate to cool your processor overclocked. You have to invest in an aftermarket CPU cooler. Even with all of that you have to do extensive testing od temperature under load and stability under load.

Use google and research overclocking and read the references already mentioned.
