Hello
I really need some help, this is my first windows laptop so bear with me.I want to have the ability to use windows 7 and linux to records music and edit.I read that the best thing to do is to make mhy C:drive into 3 partitions. One for windows(100GB)one for linux(100GB)and the rest open for use in both systems.I went into 'computer' and tried to shrink my C:drive but it would only let me cut it in half.So i followed the perfectdisk defragging methods and haVE done it many times.I followed all the deactivating recomendations per here http://http://thpc.info /how/shrink_partition_in_windows_7_vista.html
except deleting the pagefile.sys cause i think by turning off virtual memory it deleted itslef,i could find it anyways. But windows still will only let me shrink my partition by about half. Can someone please help me?
Thanks!!

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

As you've just discovered, Windows 7's disk management is not very flexible.

I would suggest you download the free Partition Wizard ISO and burn it to a bootable disc, then boot into it and make your changes from there.

This excellent tutorial includes the link for the ISO and full instructions on how to use it.

The third best is to use two separate Hard Disk Drives, running Linux with Wondows on one Hd drive will not mix well.

OK so doing a dual boot wont disregard my cache which is important for low latency recording/editing
Thanks

I'm not sure I fully understand your issue here (ie. my lack of understanding).

You can BIOS boot the two HDD. Booting this way I think is safer and no different to booting that disk as if it was the only disk present. You can access the other disk(s) once booted.
