I'm running HP Pavilion Elite m9040n PC with Windows 7. I originally was in conversation about getting HP Printer working right again. But I feel I've got this computer so screwed up I better try to get it straighten out before I worry about printer. I think I've got my permissions in the administrators side and family users side all wrong. It's been suggested to do a reinstall of Windows again, I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enought to do that. I'm logged on the administrators side now. But in normal conditions a restart and/or reboot it automatically logs in on the family side. My original problem was nothing in device and printers folder with the green line at top just keeps running. I installed HP printer but still see hp folder in C: and Network folder. I also notice there is little green lines under the folders in Network folder, I never noticed that before. I attach some snips of some of the denials. Thanks

Just because you may have administrative rights, doesn't meant you can automatically access other's files. I think that may be due to them having a password on their account. As for "The folder is in use", you can try unlocking it with Unlocker. Or at least you can see what is taking control of it.

For the automatic logging into the family account on startup, maybe they have "Don't require a password" enabled under Control Panel > Power Options > Require a password on startup. I know that when you have htat option enabled, it prompts you for the password on resuming from sleep/standby, maybe it also bypasses on a restart if they are the last account logged in.

I tryed clicking on your link for unlocker and it takes me back to the main window. Am I doing something wrong? As far as "they" having a password there is no they. I am the one who setup the auto log in years ago, thats working right. I think I probably set something wrong in users and permissions. So how do I get access to these files? The computers mine and I would like to delete them. Even I use the family side except to install or uninstall a program or something that requires administrative rights. Thanks

Your screenshots show you trying to access a share. Did you share the folders on RICK-PC? If so what permissions were applied?

The green lines under the folders mean that the folder is not located on your computer but is somewhere else (Share). The errors you are getting is you getting blocked from accessing them shares.

As for the folder already being in use. This means that a process is currently using that folder therefore you cannot move or delete it. A restart of the machine should allow you to have access otherwise you will need to start the machine in safe mode and then try to either move or delete the folder etc...

To boot the machine in safe mode follow this tutorial (OPTION ONE ONLY) - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

Shadowjk Ok, I'll try to go into safe mode and remove those HP folders. This is a home computer and the files can't be any where else but on this computer, I don't think? I installed and uninstalled HP Printer software several times and did do some sharing and unsharing. Thats why I think I got something screwed up. Thanks

Thrashzone I don't have a clue about networks and homegroups and environments. I always thought I was using Family user side in a homegroup. We always use family side except when I log into the administrtion side to install or something like that. Thanks

I lost my spell checker on this forum too. It used to be over to right up top.

The first snip-it I'm going to post looks to me like sometime my HP-Pavilion (E:) drive got copied down to Rick-PC in a folder "e". Those green lines didn't used to be under all those folders in Rick-PC. So I though on my own, I know wrong ideal, and though I could restore back to an earlier state. It didn't remove the "e" folder from Rick-PC. But I did get a message that restore didn't work Right and to rerun restore back to what it was, so I did. Thanks

Went into Safe Mode and removed hp folder and restored from inside Safe Mode. Got control back for folder Rick-PC and the "e" folder is gone, but still would like to figure out the little green lines. Is there away to set windows restore point to keep further back in time? When reboot I still get error message that started after restore. I have to figure out how to stop web printing from trying to start. There are several programs in Programs and Features for HP that will not uninstall. They don't want to work, may have to try to reinstall HP Printer and then do another uninstall? Errors attached below.

I would reinstall HP and then try to uninstall as it would appear that it is looking for a temporary location that isn't there anymore.

$WINDOWS.~Q is a backup folder for noramlly Windows Upgrades. Did you upgrade the machine from an older OS?

The padlock either means that the folder explicitly told not to share or you do not have permission. (System folders are protected so that even if you are an Administrator you cannot delete them).

Once the main issues are solved we can then help with removing the shares under the network section

Yes The machine came with Windows XP,Vista, ? I think I might have upgraded at least twice. I'm at work now but I think I was able to open that locked file and there was a folder in there titled DATA.
I'm sure that several install attemps ago when I was having trouble with my printer my CD picked up a padlock. What I'm saying is when I put the CD in my drive it opens up and installs, but the symbol down in the lower right corner shows the CD image with a padlock on it. What does that mean? Thanks

If you wouldn't mind I would like to straighten out the little green lines under my Network-Rick-PC first. I also have a few other questions about my computer hierarchy.

I did go back into safe mode again to day and found 3 folders scattered out over the computer that was an HP folder. I deleted them and went back into Control Panel/Programs and Features and got all HP printer stuff removed but one. So now when I reload into Rick's side or family side I don't get that windows that says something about "apptray". Thanks

I've ran Driver Sweeper several times now. The first time I ran it I clicked on HP Printer and there was about 10 items showed up after analyzing was done. So I clicked clean and it left these two items still in the window. I have since then went into safe mode and remove 4 HP folders scattered through out computer. I have removed the programs out of Control Panel/ Programs and Features. But for 4 times running (analyzing) and then the clean button these files will show up again the next time I run Driver Sweeper. Thanks for any advice.
