Is there any user out there who is successfully using an HP 4670 scanner with Windows 7??
And if so, can the drivers from the installation disc be used?
If not, what are you using?

Any help gratefully received
Dave

Welcome to the Windows 7 Support Forum,
Yes! You can use your install disk. Make sure you follow these steps:
  1. Before you install make sure that the scanner is not attached to your pc.
  2. Load your install disk into your pc.
  3. As the install begins make sure you install as administrator.
  4. Use the Vista option to install your drivers.
  5. When the install aske you to connect your scanner do so and then power up.
  6. Let the install complete, then reboot your system.
Let us know how it progressed.

Good morning all

Just to thank you for all your replies above.

As yet I don't have myWin7 computer but am hoping that mid summer will see its arrival.

The point of my question was really to see if I needed to buy a new printer/scanner, both of which work perfectly well. I know these items are dirt cheap but as long as these two ancients - 7 years old - can continue to do the job I see no reason to renew particularly if they can be made to work in Win7.

When I have installed I will let you know how it goes

Cheers Dave

Am Win7 user with 4670 scanner

Cannot recall how I installed the driver. Possibly Win7 found it on its own?

The driver the OS shows installed when the scanner is in the USB port is:
Manuf: Hewlett Packard
Date: 2/8/2007
Ver: 9.0.0.83

The scanner is used on multiple Win7 machines, both 32 and 64 bit, and appears to have the same driver installed. No other "support" software is there. Do not have the original disks anymore as I always check the website for the latest drivers anyway.

Appears that if I installed the driver myself, may have just grabbed the "Basic Feature Driver", posted 5 Mar 2007, labeled v1.1, and is the same for XP and Vista 64 bit -- on the HP 4670 support site. Have always been reluctant to load HP "packages" due to all the bloat that often does not work properly (have several all-in-ones).

Should add that this scanner works great under Win7. Love this scanner. Not only for its portability but ability to do large objects and books. The higher optical resolution support in the driver beats most other scanners I have used. Sometimes I have to scan maps that have 2 to 3 point type. The 4670 works great to pick this up whereas other claimed optical 2400 dpi come out with a muddled image.

Basic Feature Driver

The driver described by SurplusGadgets works in Win7 on my machine, but it does not recognize the 35mm slide and negative adapter, there is no UI, and the scanner is not recognized by HP Solution Center v14. The basic scan function is accessible by third party programs and by the simple interface located at C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpiscnapp.exe.

I am still looking for a Win7 driver that permits using the 35mm slide and negative scanner with my HP 4670.

Got ideas?
