Hi,
Recently I bought a laptop for my girlfriend (used) HP Pavilion:
AMD Athlon 1.6ghz 64 Bit
1gig RAM (2gig available)
nVidia Graphics Card

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64, we both loved it, ran smooth for about a day and then things went wrong. You know the normal Vista problems: shutting down unexpectedly, BSOD, bogged down. Anyways, I tested I think it was the first release MS came out with of Windows 7 and loved it but it was too buggy.

What do you guys think about me installing Windows 7 on her laptop?

Hey, welcome to the forums. You can have a bit of reading and see for yourself, at least you will need the extra gb of ram. cheers
  • A PC for testing that meets these minimum system requirements (specific to Windows 7 RC and subject to change in the final version of Windows 7):
    • 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
    • DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher drive

Maybe on an x86 install but would 1gb of ram for x64 and aero work just fine? If so they should lower their min requirements then..!

I haven't tried 64 on anything less than 2GB, but I know 32 will work with 512MB of RAM, so it seems likely that 64 will run on 1GB.
