*Warning* for Nvidia WHQL 196.75 drivers

Some major problems being reported with these new WHQL 196.75 drivers. Cards overheating and possible damage due to fan control problems.

Nvidia has pulled them off their site. Recommended to fall back to previous drivers.

Hmm I updated, then proceeded to run a 3dMark Test as i have been some stutter problems with my 9800gt, not a good idea. My machine BSOD'ed and my video card overheated quite a lot( I could barely touch it) and I have had to replace it.

Haha, somehow i saw this coming... i today formatted my PC, and saw that new drivers where available, and decided against downloading them, and sticking to the 196.21 ones that i have an installer for on my PC.

i saw that on some other site.

I did upgrade it to 196.75, and everything was pretty normal.
but I fallback the driver just incase. dont want to fry my £100 GPU

Nobody's said that, just after however many problems ATI has had with their drivers, Nvidia's has a fault, which is the first major problem in, I think, a year now

i did apply these new drivers a day ago, but havent run anything 3d (does WEI count?) and the system's off right now.
waiting for new drivers.

ps: remember the days when the ati video driver would corrupt the file system?

Nobody's said that, just after however many problems ATI has had with their drivers, Nvidia's has a fault, which is the first major problem in, I think, a year now

lol, actually I've lost count how many have used the nvidia='Driver Perfection' as a first comment/last resort in countless and pointless fanboi arguments all over the internets.

At least you know that when ATI bring out a new release, they are only breaking a game (or several) - not the hardware itself. (As a general rule)

On the other hand, if ATI did bring out a card damaging driver - it would stay card damaging for several weeks. At least nvidia get on top of their act a lot sooner

Although I haven't experienced any problems with the 196.75 drivers (and I've been running them for the past couple of days), I have rolled back to 196.21 as a precaution.

When I first built my box in July, I put a 9800GTX+ in it and the EVGA card had a problem with the Nvidia drivers and once it spun up the fans, they would never spin back down on their own.

So, unless I'm actively gaming and such, I don't usually stay completely up to date with video card drivers. They do seem to have issues from time to time.

I am ok since I don't check for video card drivers that offten so I still got the 196.21 drivers

It has been strongly advised that you revert back to a previous driver. As I stated earlier, I wasn't having any problems but I have reverted back to my previous driver as a precaution. It could be that the issue won't affect everybody, but I suspect that those who overclock their graphics card and run programs with demanding graphics will be those most vulnerable to it.

We believe recent NVIDIA UNIX graphics drivers, 195.36.08 and 195.36.03, are also affected by this. Until the problem is resolved, we recommend that UNIX users revert to the 190.53 web release or the 195.30 public beta.

We are in the process of removing 195.36.08 and 195.36.03 from NVIDIA's FTP site.

We will post more information as it is available.
