You are supposed to burn your recovery DVDs from the recovery partition. No systems come with discs any more - except some Dell I guess.

On my older HP, I used to type 'recovery' into the start/search field and the 'recovery disc creator wizard' used to show up above. Else look into the booklet that came with the laptop. You will need 2 or 3 DVD-R.

They are getting cheaper every day. If nothing else, call their useless helpline.

I'm not sure if the policy is still the same, but about a year ago I bought an HP Probooks that didn't come with any recovery DVDs, but when I called customer service they sent them out to me for no charge.

Running the Recovery Partition from boot is the most stable method to recover to factory condition: HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Make your Recovery disks to have as a backup method.

However these methods reinstall the huge load of factory bloatware which is worse on HP than any other model. That's why most tech enthusiasts choose to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get a more lean install of just the OS.

In the mean time you can Clean Up Factory Bloatware - Windows 7 Forums. If you're satisfied with performance after that you can save a Win7 backup image to use as for recovery if ever needed:
Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
System Image Recovery
Macrium - Image your system

I think the best course to follow is to go to My Digital Life (Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life) and download an ISO image of your version of the Windows 7 (Windows 7 home premium 32-bit). After that, burn it on a DVD and create your own Windows 7 Installation DVD for using in the future if the need arises.

After installation from your DVD, the OS can be activated by your current Product Key easily. The Product Key should be on a sticker on the bottom of your Laptop but as a measure of abundant precaution keep a hard copy safely tucked away somewhere.

Good luck.
