Hello,

Earlier this year I purchased an Asus F50S laptop. I love the laptop but I am a bit frustrated that they shipped a 32bit version of Windows with a 64 bit Laptop. I own my own business doing videography work - and I know I am not getting the full performance out of my laptop.

What are my options? Is there a way to upgrade to 64 bit Windows or do I have to buy it? I just think its a bit silly Asus would do this.

Thank you,

Dale W

You can call the company ask for the DVD, may changre 10 bucks or so
or
Borrow it from a friend or enemy. The key is good for both 32 or 64. You just need the DVD.

Well, since this is OEM pre-installed, you have the following option:

1) Image your system using a program like Macrium Reflect, also make recovery disks using whatever inbuilt app Asus provides. Backup user data.

Now, call Asus and request them to provide a 64 bit disk. If that works, well and good, otherwise borrow a 64 bit disk from a friend and clean install win7 64 bit. NO, you cant upgrade. After that you'll need to call MS and do a phone activation.

2) Since you have already paid for Win7, it doesnt make sense to pay once more.

3) How much memory does the system have, 64 bit basically enables use of >4gb ram, if you have less, stick to 32 bit.

Alright Thank you very much,

I should be able to get a disc somewhere. Good to know the key works for both.

The laptop has 4 gigs of ram. I would really care about the switch so much - its just I know programs like after effects and premier cs5 will no longer even run in a 32bit enviroment.
