Way to DRAG n DROP files/folders to Hard Drive?

Wondering if there should be a STICKY, GROUPS or THREADS for TIPS and TRICKS? in this forum -combined perhaps with a wish list that we can send to MSFT every month

Anyway, one thing I really like about OS X is the ability to drag a folder from desktop to computer, then the window auto opens, displaying root, then you can drag over another folder (which opens to display sub root) and so on until you find the place where you want to dump the folder.

Is there a way to do this in Win 7 (or Vista)?

I right clicked computer and have Computer showing on desktop -dragging a folder onto this does nothing. Hoping there is a way to do this and perhaps an icon (as well?) of the HD on the desktop?

Advice appreciated.

EDIT: NEW = it will allow you to drag a folder from desktop to start button than into my documents folder. Not bad but better than nothing. All we need now is for my documents to open and have it display sub folders and/or the ability to drag anywhere. Advice?

That is where the Mac fanboys hangout. As far as windows acting like a Mac. It probably never will. Windows isnt a toy like Leopard. When I drag a folder somewhere I do so to change its location not to start opening subfolders. Why would you want it to?

Windows dosent act like a Mac because it isnt.

Besides in windows we can right click.

I'd suggest opening Computer so that it opens up Explorer and shows an item on the taskbar. Then start dragging the file onto the taskbar item, Computer should show up if it wasn't already showing (maybe it minimized for some reason while you were dragging). Then, in Computer you can just do what you described: drag the file onto a filder and you will see it expand in the treeview. If you know where you want to drop it, then you drop it on the name of that folder.

I've been using windows and macs for a long time. Mac's are far from toys and there is nothing wrong with wanting productivity/keyboard short cuts. In fact, with Windows new bottom toolbar/thumbnail combination, it's similar to having a dock and spaces and therefore I was simply suggesting that we keep sending feedback to windows development.

I won't bite in that I start pointing out strengths and weaknesses of the two as again, I was simply suggesting productivity that helps users complete tasks in a good way.

I've developed software for the PC (and worked on both) and won't turn this into a bashing thread. Just suggestions, tips or tricks.

As I stated earlier, you can drop files into START button then into "Documents" - and who knows, perhaps there will be more by the time windows comes out.

May be - not sure. I do know that drivers for HIGH END audio were not released until almost a few months ago (Vista) and this BETA is far, by quite a bit, the best I have ever used from Microsoft.

Additionally, I like the way the NEW library (a nod from OSX?) is set up - this is new. You can also drag onto START and have it create new library. Very cool indeed. Can't wait to see how the final release turns out.
