Web browsers are like cars, everyone has a difference opinion...why don't you just try a few? They all perform the same these days.

Opera claims to be the fastest browser on earth. It is very good too and my grand-daughter uses it in preference to every other browser. I have used it extensively too and liked it but now I am using Google Chrome. Google Chrome is very good too.

However the majority of users are sold on Firefox that used to be very good once upon a time. Like you, I also think that the Internet Explorer is the pits.

Opera is a good lightweight browser. It doesn't consume as much as system resources say as chrome with multiple extensions installed. If you prefer clean interface with no extensions then chrome,IE9 and firefox are good options also.
Try few browsers and see which ones is fast and stable enough on your rig.

Like Wanchoo said it all comes down to preference and liking.

There are also offshoots from the open-sourced Firefox. For a 64-bit OS, there is Waterfox. And there is also Pale Moon, which comes in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. Pale Moon is optimised, i.e. several browser functions of Firefox deemed unnecessary are removed by the programmer.

There are other too like Apple Safari for Windows, Avant Browser, Comodo Dragon, Crazy Browser, Dooble Web Browser. Lunascape, Maxthon 3, Netscape Navigator that started it all but has now gone under, Ocra Browser and many more but even their combined share of the Browser Market is negligible.

In reality however the choice is only between Chrome, Firefox. IE and Opera. And Opera apart from being very fast, has certain features that the other three don't have. The best is its ability to start a broken download again from where it broke off.

I used Chrome exclusively but it started having Flash problems and now they are tracking everybody. Tried to get Firefox but would not install. I now have Opera for last two days with no problems. My Ie 9 does not work and when it did it worked like molasses. I think I will give Opera a shot for awhile but they use Google search so I don't know what the security issuers are going to be. BTW I don't visit torrent sites or anything else (porn) and I have been virus free for last 10 years. (I mentioned that last sentence because there is another thread going where someone is using torrent and having browser issues).

I often wonder if the IE people frequent these forums to find out what issues are current and what people are complaining about. Just a thought......

I think I will give Opera a shot for awhile but they use Google search so I don't know what the security issuers are going to be.

Very easy to change the default search in Opera , open preferences Ctrl+F12 select the search tab & select the search engine you want to use then the Edit button.
The Speed Dial search has a arrow on the left you can click & select Manage Search Engines.
If the search engine you want to use is not on the list just go to its site & right click in the search field & select Create Search from the context list.
You can create a search on any web page that has a search field such as BBC News or You Tube you can also assign a keyword which can be a single letter.
For example if I have Bing as my default search & I want to search using Google I type " g sport " must have a space after the g.

Love my Opera the best browser for customizing the user interface.
