Opera 10.5 grabs browser speed crown

well here........http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...er_speed_crown

Opera Software's beta of Opera 10.5 leapfrogged every rival to become the world's fastest browser, benchmark tests show.

Released on Thursday and powered by a new JavaScript engine, Opera 10.5 beat all comers to easily take the top speed spot.

According to tests run by Computerworld, Opera 10.5 was nearly 15% faster than Safari for Windows and almost 20% faster than Google's Chrome, the previous No. 1 and No. 2 browsers. Opera's preview was more than twice as fast as Mozilla's Firefox 3.6, over eight times faster than Opera 10.10, and 10 times faster than Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).

Wait, have any of you guys tried the browsers on Windows XP (x86) versions, because when I tried Chrome on Windows XP Home Edition (x86) it was terrible, But on Vista Home Premium (x86) it was about the same speed as Safari. On my laptop Safari and Chrome were about the same speed but Chrome slowed down a bit.

Nope. When my power at my house is restored (damn storm) I'll install XP and try it though.

I've tried all the browsers though on Vista and 7 (64-bit). I can say, that Chrome (for me), was the faster of them all.

Only on my Windows Vista laptop did it run the best the configuration I believe is

Windows Vista Home Premium (x86)
2.00GB RAM
160GB HDD
(It`s a HP Pavilion laptop of some sort)

Also, the XP Desktop configuration is...

Windows XP Home Edition (x86)
512MB RAM
120GB HDD
HP Pavilion a462x

According to my own tests Chromium 5.0 surpasses Opera 10.5 in every benchmark. Opera 10.5 is definitely the closest though out of IE8, and Firefox 3.7a2.

Tests I used were peacekeeper, css3 selectors test, v8 bench, slickspeed, c5bench, dromaeo, acid3, and sunspider.

That I agree with. I should've mentioned earlier I was referring to the dev builds of Chrome. Which I always use.

i dont see how you can say that any one browser is faster than the other definitively, it varies by cconnection and speed, for instance on my machine, the order of speed on the "big 5" (excluding safari as i havent tested it) goes as follows

on a broadband connection:
Chrome,
Firefox,
IE8
Opera

on dialup:
Chrome
Firefox
Opera
IE8

it depends on machine set up, and whether or not your pc "likes" the software (in the same way that sometimes software will seemingly seem incompatible for no discernable reason)

What about speed of getting the job done, i.e. usability and stuff being in a logical place so you can do things quickly. Firefox with a few extensions wins by a mile. It always takes me half an hour to find anything in super fast Chrome so it kind of defeats the purpose. Opera I haven't tried lately but it messed up so many web pages in ver.9 I couldn't persevere with it.

To me they are all about the same. We are actually talking about micro-seconds here for the most part.

From my experience:
IE8 will be the fastest browser (at certain sites).
Other sites, Chrome will always be faster.
And others, it will always be Firefox.

By the time you step back and take an objective look at the whole picture, they are all about on par with eachother when it comes to speed. No major differnence in the overall scheme of things.

In the end it all comes down to a few key things:
mainly which one suits your needs the best, most user friendly or ease of use (to that particular user) and comfortable to get around with. This is what matters most.

Unless of course it really matters to you that browser A loaded Seven forums .05 seconds faster than browser B.

just saying :)

My 2cents for what its worth.
