Any idea what would stop my brouswer from not opening a web page. It's the county school page so it's nothing you'd expect to be blocked in some way. I've checked (or uncheck) the usual suspects and I don't seem to have any problem with any other site. My Vista machine loads it just fine. Both pcs are running IE8 in 32bit mode. I haven't set any permissions or blocked anything intentionally. Any ideas????

Okay I just tried it again and it loaded. Didn't do a thing different. Samething last night, tried and tried and then it decided to load. Site wasn't down because I was on it with my other machine. Stuff that makes you go Hummmmm.

Click on tools, then 'compatibility view'. See if that helps.

Go to start menu, type troubleshooting and see what you come up with. In addition, do check disk for errors. Also, do a disc, clean up. You may also want to do a search for the website (search by start button) and delete all the entries, that you find.

Edit: Jaycee was posting while I was typing. Try her idea first, It makes a lot of sense. If it does not work, try my ideas. I think we will solve this.

Tried all that stuff. That one site just doesn't seem to open. As I said it's strange that so far it's just that one site. Once in awhile if I keep fooling around it will eventually open, but as soon as I close IE8 and try it again I'm back to the same old
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

thing. The windows diagnostic tells me my system is configured fine. I've never ran into this where it wasn't the site that was down or a permissions issue.

Down for everyone or just me?

Use the above link. Lets see if it is the site or you. Type the name of the site. It will tell you if it is down.

As I said, sometimes after fooling with it or even just after looking at other "stuff" it will connect. Which of course it just did. I'll restart IE and see what happens.

Apparently it is will to play well with others right now. Connected twice in a row, it's never done that before. I'll try your site the next time it refuses to connect. Again though I've set with my other computer running Vista and IE8 and it doesn't ever seem to have that problem. It connects the same way this one does, same cable connection, same router.

It could be the site itself.. I am a web developer, if you post the link I can check the code etc for you to see if there is a problem at their end

there are many reasons a site might be down or look down to you.. its not always to do with your pc...

ouch.. wow.. it is breaking every rule in the book.. let me explain

its using 'frames' which basically means its calling 2 pages at once when its loading

it is also using loads and loads of javascript.. including javascript to mess with cookies, this could be the load problem

there is loads of html and very large ( bytes ) images there my guess is that its not your pc, its the poor workmanship on the site causing problems..

are you on a low bandwidth by any chance like dial up or a lower broadband speed ?...
are you using internet explorer ?...
have you tried switching off javascript in your browser to see if it loads a little faster ?

just a few things you could try... but if you are using IE, try firefox, safari or opera.. cant promise anything but those are usually a little better at dealing with that sort of website

I'm not low on bandwidth. I have a highspeed cable connection. It really doesn't surprise me that a product from my districts MIS would have "issues". Any idea on why it will connect now and then but not consistantly on this machine but will on my older Vista pc?

a highspeed cable connection could mean anything to be honest from 1mb all the way to 50mb+, that does not make it a fast connection ( try this http://www.speedtest.net/ my download speed as I just done it is 53.56mbs )

have you recently cleaned out your cookies and browser of internet junk ?.. maybe you should
and honestly, try another browser, you might find that every site you go to loads faster

to a web developer IE is a bug infested rat trap, we code and fix problems for it for one reason, and that is because its shipped with windows its a popular browser, if it was not shipped with windows it certainly would not be a popular as it is.. I use firefox and when I started to build websites I knew nothing of different browsers, but I found firefox and loved the speed, ( just took a while to get used to slight differences )

The differences between vista on your old computer and windows 7 I honestly could not tell you, but as a web developer, I can easily see why you would have problems connecting to the site

You must have direct access to a T1. I'm hitting just over 19 mbits/s, which as a general rules aint too bad for a home computer.
