Hi all,
I am running Windows 7 Professional as a small webserver. Yes yes, I know the disadvantages but I have a question. I am using my router's public IP as a public IP for my web server. In the future, (once I've finished creating my website) I will use a DNS service to get a custom domain name made out of that public IP. How will I make it so that is hidden so that people can't ping it because I don't want them to get that Public IP adress.

as far as I know you can't.

It's a public IP.
Reverse DNS will provide the IP.

Unless it is going through a proxy? Someone who knows more can probably elaborate or correct where I am wrong.

The only thing you can do is setup a firewall that puts your system in stealth (basically, does not respond to any pings so it appears the IP is out there but nothing on the other end to respond to it.)

I don't think that can be done either though cause it is a web server. It must respond or you can't serve content.

Sounds good I'll try that. I guess your right there is an option in advanced firewall to allow or disallow pings. Thank you! You were a big help!
