Weird artifact on window corner when using smaller title bars

I've set my window title bars and caption buttons to be smaller by using the built in advance appearance settings in windows. I like this much better than the default large buttons and bars. This produces an odd graphical bug. What appears like a hangnail is present on the top left corner of some windows. I have attached a screenshot of this. Also, taskbar icons look squashed and blurry. Anybody know how to fix this?
