Solved Weird behavior when installing ATI driver

Hey guys

Any of you experts know why i get a light blue screen whenever i install drivers for my HD5750?

Install goes as normal, and after a reboot,all i get is this very light blue screen,no icons,no mouse marker,nothing. ctrl+alt+delete results in a total black screen,so i cant even close the process or see what is happening. My monitor is recieving the signal,and i get desktop fine whenever the drivers are removed. However,now i cant remove the driver using F8 safe mode,as windows install isnt loaded as well,so i have to re-install windows yet again back to usability.

I have NEVER seen a problem like this before,and i have no idea how to fix it

What is the exact make and model of the card?
You may require a proprietary version of the driver from the card manufacturer.

This is very strange though.
Have you tried completely removing the old display driver before installing the new one?

I have NEVER had a problem usng the regular drivers before. I have re-installed windows due to strange behaviour (my lan suddenly stopped working,i had to clear cmos) and now no gfx driver works.

I have tried the one from windows update,the latest ati,an older ati, ALL gives the same result,light blue screen,no icons,no marker,nothing.

Thew card is a Sapphire Radeon HD5750,and like i said i have used this no problem for a year or so now.

I can only get desktop if all gfx drivers are removed

I have a 5850 that has been a really good card and they are related so I don't doubt that.
We're not in last week though we're in the now.
That driver scrub was the best first idea I can give you. It's possible there was a problem on the first install and since then it has not been removed (and the ati catalyst install manager is well useless in this regard)

This is my reason for suggesting driver sweeper as a first step.
Until we are past that I don't really have a second step.
It also sounds like it may be possible you cmos battery is dying.
This can happen randomly on anything from brand new systems to computers that are 8+ years old.
Your system does seem a tad new to be suffering from the problem but it wouldn't be the first time I had seen it.

...and just to be sure, you did go back through the bios and set everything back to normal right?

Hehe,funny you should mention it,i exchanged the cmos battery for a new one yesterday,and i have set bios to the way i need it to work.

The drivers have been completely removed several times,as i delete the partition,re-formatted and installed windows 7 new,and i did this 3 times,same result every time.. Weird light blue screen with nothing at all on it,and ctrl+alt+delete yields black screen with nothing at all on it

Well there are a couple of additional windows components required to make the newest ati drivers install and work right.
Last I have for you is to manually attempt updating them.

because windows update insists on only installing the 32bit version.

The .net should be handled by windows update, but we'll manually do it just in case.
All those things are required by the newest catalyst package though.

OK, still a no go.. Everything installed fine,and then i installed the 12.1 driver,and blue screen again. Something is really wrong. I have to safe mode in,and chose a restore point to get desktop

It's fairly obviously not liking the driver.
Give this version a try.
This is the most recent driver from ati I remember as being really stable. (my alternate machine, and at that time my primary machine does have a 5850 which uses the same driver pack)
Previous ATI Catalyst

Out of all of them 11.9 I remember as being the most stable with the 5 series cards.
So give that one a shot, it's only about 6months old so not terribly dated.
Even covers bf3.

Well, i hate to admit it,but i am a retard..I had both DVI and HDMI attached,and the driver booted onto the hdmi for my 46" screen,hence what i saw on my 24" monitor,was just a corner of the desktop..

All is fine now,when i removed the hdmi .. Now if only i would remember this for next time

Well I couldn't have known, you only have one monitor listed in your specs.
I will look on the bright side though, I now know what question to ask first should I see the problem again.
