Hmmm that's kinda odd. I updated my graphics drivers a few days ago, and I haven't had the problem happen to me yet. I hadn't updated since May, and I had to download and install all of the driver releases between then and now so that it would actually update to the newest version that supposedly fixes the error. I don't know if that could be your problem or not.

I always assumed it was a driver issue, but I don't think it has to do with your motherboard drivers. And since ATI released the drivers with those in the fix, it certainly seems like it's a video driver issue. Though since you have a 4 monitor setup, the driver fixes may not have fixed it for that many monitors. But that's just speculation on my part.

I should mention that it never happens upon boot up. The pointer only gets corrupt upon usage, but I cannot pin down what type of usage. For instance, if I am playing two videos at once in firefox and also downloading, the pointer will change just as I cancel one of the videos. Just making that specific example up to say that it happens right when windows is being tasked unusually.

Ahhh that kind of sort of makes sense because video cards don't usually process information for both monitors equally. So if two separate monitors need a decently large amount of power simultaneously from a single card, then you might see some sort of error occur if there's a sudden shift in how much processing power that that monitor needs like when you cancel a video. Again, that's just me speculating, and I'm not really sure if that's the reason.

I'm on a Windows 7 x64 system with an ATI Radeon 5700 card.

Had this same problem crop up yesterday and have been searching the internet for a fix. I'm using a dual monitor setup and it only affects one of the monitors- at the time, the primary monitor. Bizarrely, when I updated my video driver the problem switched monitors and is now affecting the secondary monitor, but not the primary one. I checked to see if their designations had been changed in the update somehow, but they are still set up the same and identify the same as beforehand.

Additionally, at the time the problem occurred I was running a fullscreen program at a lower resolution than my monitor's normal setting. It's normally 1600x900 and I was running a program at about half that (I can't find anywhere in the program or its documentation that the resolution is noted or able to be changed) with only 64bit colour. Not sure whether the problem may be related to that though. :/
