Weird (to me) Win 7 Behaviour

Not sure in which forum to place this post, here goes. I have a question about windows 7. Everything is fine. It has this behaviour, this feature, which I've always had and I was wondering if everyone has it. I will proceed to describe it:

I open a window with explorer, let's say it's E:\films. The folder has maybe 100 files. The window I open gives me three columns of files, let's say. If I want to see more (alphabetically sorted, BTW) I have to use the bar at the bottom of the window with my mouse and move over to the other files. All fine and dandy.

Now... if i click on a file or folder which is in the 2nd or 3rd column, windows will not open it, rather it will shift that column (say number 3) to the extreme left of the window. I am now viewing columns 3,4 and 5. Correct? So I then can proceed to open the file or folder which was previously in column number 3 with no problem.

But why this behaviour?

Sounds like the Tiles setting. Their are not many that use the Tile view.
If you click on a Folder, it disappears and what's in it slides to the left, but mine open without further movement.

bardos, I believe you are correct.
You shouldn't have any confidence problems with, what ever view setting you use. Windows will keep track of the links to your Files stored on your hard disk drive (HDD) and open the correct one. Do you have any mismatched problems opening these files?
Let's say you wanted to open bardos1 and bardos 2 opened up instead. Then by all means, try Gator's Fixit link.

A primer may be needed: Customize the Five Windows Folder Templates

As far as trying to explain the behaviour, well, that's a horse of a different color.

Switch it to check boxes to select items and test,
You can also switch to point to select and click to open items,
Top left Organize/ Folder and search options/ General/ Tick the box to Single click to open point to select,
Or View section/ scroll down for Use check boxes to select items,
Apply and Okay.

I don't understand this. You are speaking in shorthand. Could you be more specific? thanks
