I am using Windows 7 Home edition (x64 bits) and have noticed that there are no permissions set for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. The following message is displayed.

No permissions have been assigned for this object.

Warning: this is a potential security risk because anyone who can access this object can take ownership of it. The object's owner should assign permissions as soon as possible.

I can't installed Windows applications (using Microsoft installer) ranging Office, Midmanager and any other application.

Please I need your help, I bought this in January
Any advise
Thanks
Jonathan

I really don't know. I realized I had a problem when I tried to install MindManager. Each time I wanted to use the application I was forced to go over the initial setup. I googled my problem and was forced to realize that it was a registry issue.

Try this:

Found the following here: Post by qella3, near the bottom. Also simliar/same in a post by Arthur Xi here: WIndows 7: No Administrator Rights and C:\ is not accessible

Before doing anything, create a new System Restore point and/or a full registry backup using ERUNT

1) Download SubInAclat Microsoft Download Center SubInACL (SubInACL.exe) and install it. Default install is to C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools. You can change this to whatever you want.
2) Open a Command Prompt and navigate to the directory subinacl was installed in.

Type (or copy and paste) subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f and press Enter.

That should reset HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT to it's normal value.

should I run this 2 line instead of just one
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=Administrators=f /grant=System=f /grant=Users=r /setowner=Administrators
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=Administrators=f /grant=System=f /grant=Users=r /setowner=Administrators

If I have to should I do it in a notepad file ? If it's yes how should I named the file ? Should I restored all my privileges (including HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER directories)

Could this problem was initially initiated by TuneUp Utilities ?

thanks again

Try running it from an Elevated Command Prompt.

Click on the Start Orb and enter cmd
At the top, under Programs, you'll see cmd.exe
Right click on it and select Run as Administrator

The Command Prompt window should look like this:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>

Try running the subinacl command now.

Hi,

I'm running a software called Bellarc advisor. this software runs and tells you everything you have on your computer (hardware and everything). I have a red cross besides Administrator (disabled) under the local system accounts. Under Users, I have my account and it says I'm an administrator.Does it means that I'm not an administrator anymore ?

Any ideas!

No, that just means the hidden Administrator account is disabled. It is disabled by default in Windows 7.

I was originally using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions when i found that it was failing alot of times at 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT'. I also get the 'egSetKeySecurity Error: 5 Access is denied'. So i tried out the method mentioned above but sadly it didn't work. I ran an elevated command prompt. Is there any way to solve this? Also, SubInACL failed alot of time at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'.

I am not very proficient at computers and so i sincerely hope someone here can help me. Also, what are the possible problems i might face because of these errors?

Help anyone? I have been reading up a bit on the possible devastation giving yourself total access can cause and all i want to know know is what possible damage could occur to my computer, it being in the state that it is, with permissions being 'half given' if i understand my situation correctly.

Also, is there any way to reset the permissions without affecting the usage of my programs and what not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have made a backup image ( I assume you have )

Have you tried restoring any changes made by Tune Up utils - it must have some kind of restore/rescue module ?

Otherwise, you can give this a whirl. Not sure if it will do the trick , but it's free and only takes a few mins.

Thank you for your reply.

To be completely honest, i sadly did not make a backup image. I know that was the pinnacle of stupidity and have learned my lesson. However, my main concern is to reverse/repair any damage my system is currently suffering.

Also, as i mentioned above, i don't even know what might happen and would really appreciate it if someone could enlighten me on possible problems i might face.

I will give the utility you mentioned a try and get back to you.

Hi guys,

It's still me. I have done the procedure but each time I get 45276 failed on 181 349 registry keys and the error seems to be RegSetKeySecurity : 5 Acces is Denied. I need your help again. I still have registry issues. Firefox give me error while trying to run ITMS protocol from Itunes.

Please guys, I really need the help from a Windows 7 guru or anybody. Just need the help!!

Thanks

@gouletjo did you ever get the Hidden Administrator Account working? Are you able to log on with it? If you can then you need to run the command I provided before. You need to reset all the premissions on the key:

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=Administrators=f /grant=System=f /grant=Users=r /setowner=Administrators

If that does not work you can try this, however you MUST be logged on as the Hidden Administrator for this to work. Open Command Prompt and type:

secedit /configure /CFG %SystemRoot%\inf\defltbase.inf /DB defltbase.sdb /verbose /areas REGKEYS

-WS
