Hi

Hey. I'm new to this forum.
You might not expect this but I'm a 13 year old girl. I'm into digital stuff. Well, I got my own PC last year and I'm not all that nooby :) Since then I have been learning everything I could about computers. Though I'm more of a software person, I do know just a bit about hardware.
Nice to meet you all!

Welcome aboard, binarymonster! I'm not at all surprised that a 13 year old girl gets IT stuff! I have a 17 year old daughter and she's very knowledgeable about computers and fixes her own! Of course, it helps that her father (me) is an IT guy since 1987!

Avoid Panic Mode--i.e. Reboot

Shut off computer, maybe wait 10 or more seconds-- why that is sometimes helpful I dunno ---and reboot fixes some, if not many presumed problems i.e. I've relearned recently-- cause I had forgot ---that rebooting often times solves problems.

I too am relatively new to my used 2007, Toshiba(2009), A135 Satelite 1.73 Ghz,Intel core duo laptop. Minor buggies and some I figured out others not.

Recently did lastest security updates after waiting, reading/research here and all went well for a day or two. Also there was a strange Toshiba update that appeared and I processed it. Presumed it was not a viral/trojan/malware bug, as my free anti-bug defender and Avast said nothing about it.

I had done the Toshibal update twice-- sperate day cause I think I clicked incorrect something first time around but still had turned off computer at twice since then and all was ok. Also done a defrag later that day.

Then the next moring( yesterday ) turn-on computer and notice the Toshiba BIOS screen had larger font than than normal. So then I get to main screen and network adaptor driver is said to be missing cannot find and I have no access to my WIFI etc.....

I forgot the reboot golden rule, and while computer is still on, I go to office where there is ethernet cable access to computer. Still no access. Finally I reboot and Toshiba BIOS screen no longer has large font, and I have cable access to internet.

Go back home start computer again, and now all is bacl to normal WIFI access etc ergo I never needed to find a new network adpator driver...whew!

So the simple mora(?) and reminder of this story isto Avoid Panic--- good advice in general ---and remember to try rebooting procedures at least once, when computer doesn't want to play nice.

Hi guys

Hello everyone, I have finally decided to join this forum. I have actually had this forum in my bookmarks but never got around joining it. I have been a pc user for quite some time ( I recently turned 30 ) so I have been through a lot of the hectic changes in the past. I am a Windows and Linux user and I firmly believe that each operating system has its faults but each also has its positive aspects....just like everything else in life. I am currently residing in Eastern Europe, but I am originally from the east coast..NY to be precise. I do not work in the IT field, but consider it a hobby of mines. I have built many computers, routers and such in the past which I believe has taught me some knowledge that I can share with others. My most recent build is a AMD Bulldozer with a Gigabyte mobo and nVidia GPU. This will be my first water cooled build....* yes very excited *. I am still waiting on my cooler, I ordered a ( Thermaltake Water 2.0 PRO/All In One Liquid Cooling System CLW0216 ) due to several factors. I think the biggest plus is that its a sealed / contained system, so I don't have to worry about refilling it. I guess its a good starting point.

As the time goes on, I would like to go further into liquid cooling, perhaps something to cool gpu / north/south bridge ...the possibilities are endless. But for now I wanted to try something simple and easy. I considered the Corsair H70, but since my case is not a full atx size, after some measurements..I decided on the slightly smaller Thermaltake. And yes, I will use Arctic Silver..not that pre applied goo they include. Once I get my liquid cooler in place, I have a ram cooler and a custom modified north bridge heatsink/40mm fan ready..since I would like to overclock my build to at least 4ghz. Sure I can do it using air, but I want to learn using liquid. I guess that is all for now, if you guys have any questions feel free to ask :) Nice to meet you all :)

Hello..

Hi everyone..
I work with Win7 at work and home (although I still have a desktop running WinXP) and really would like to find out how to have my laptop work better and more efficiently. Currently trying to solve a storage/partition issue.

I live in northeast Ohio, work full time and have a family so I really don't have a lot of time for PC issues. :)

Nice to be here. I think I can find out a lot of good info.
