Creating a new file in a shared homegroup

We have set up homegroup to be able to share documents through out our office. From my computer which I am part of the homegroup and have been give read/write access I am able to put documents in the files and folders. What I am unable to do is compose a new file folder. Is this something that cannot be done. when I am in a document folder there is not the option of create new file My computer is a Windows 10 HP
