problem with windows 7

Hi
i cannot start windows 7 from safe mode after sleeping....a black screen prevents me from entering anything so what can I do with keystrokes or ?....note please that the computer worked fine before sleep, but i probably changed something in settings but with no way to get the display monitor to show anything, what to do?
