I'm going to say hello again, as I've been away from the forum since 2010 !

After a horrible spell on W10, where I'd got used to it and started to accept it with build 1909, right up until the next update which was the point I said enough.

So I dusted off my old W7 pro ISO and did a clean install, which has been... challenging, but I'm there now, and learing about the update program has made me really happy.

For me W7 is like apple's snow leopard, the high point of the software for usability and lean streamlined functionality.

So all that said.. hello again guys,

Once I got used to 10 I didn't mind it, but the thing for me is that I've two pieces of software (engineering CAD packages) that rely on a localhost licence server application, and for whatever reason when build 20H2 was pushed and forced on the machine those applications wouldn't play nice and the programmes in question wouldn't boot as whatever had been updated screwed with the server program.

Buying a new seat of the software isn't an option as it's so expensive, so I have to ensure whatever I have works with it.

Then 22H2 was pushed on everyone and your install looked like a five year old had been let loose with a crayon.

It's probably the one thing about 10 I didn't like at all, and that was the forced updates that to me seemed to just say "too bad, we're installing whether you like it or not" as opposed to just the security updates and fixes because other than that everything was running just fine as it was.

If I wanted something that was going to make every application go haywire with a new update I'll stick to my mac.

The plan is maybe to get everything super up to date with a w7 installation, and then create a golden master disk image as the foundation of any work.

I know that it all works up to W10 1909, so I may put that on a separate partition and upgrade the w7 build I know works to it.
Either way, first thing is first... a solid w7 foundation is required.

Hi all!! Recently retired (not by choice) airline Pilot, 41yrs flying for various airlines around the country. amateur radio operator, crazy-over-th-top holiday decorator, both Halloween & Christmas. 6 kids, mine and steps. Really enjoy computer building, MS 3.0, 3.1, XP, Millennium, Vista, 7, 10 and now 11 (24H2) Dev Inside Tester.

I was in several OS forums for years, Beta tester for Vista and Seven, then Ten .. couldn't find my old profile here, so had to start fresh again. Eight or nine desktop machines, -486's to i7's, in various states of con (or de)struction, running OS's from XP (cant find my 3.1 disks anymore) to Win 11Pro ("12") .. dozen or so laptops, "fruity" tablets .. lots of pieces/parts around .. 'wife refers to my office space as a "Super Fund site", and the house as "Rancho Neglecto". Def not rich, just irresponsible.

I'm a Gamer Girl, lots of older (like me) games, both online and installed apps (original simcity, etc) .. huge piratical proclivities .. Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Pirates of the Burning Seas .. Many Halloween's saw a 29' pirate ship with 14 animatronic piratical crew in front yard .. sea sounds, cannons, fog, lights .. I'm jus' missin' the eye patch an' pegleg ..
