Has anyone tried to use some WD's Diag software with Win 7 X64?

Floppy disk maker:
Wouldn't work.... continually complained because the floppy was write protected when in fact it wasn't. Tried numerous ploys to get around the error but in the end I failed. Even tried formating a floppy and copying the dlgdiag5.exe to it floppy booted fine the exe would not load.
ISO for CD:
Wouldnt work.....machine would boot up and show it was loading Caldera Dos but then would stop there with a blank screen. I would assume at this point that the exe file was at fault. Tried a couple different ploys on this to no avail.
Diags for Win:
Really had a hard time getting this to load into the system but was finally succesful. Yet when I invoked it the Window came up but when I tried any diag it returned a message that the sata cable was bad. Which can not be true.

Try running Seagate SeaTools. It's made for Seagate, but will work for any manufacturer's hard drive. Redirect

And the WD Disk Wizard...

I find it always better (unless using such like Paragon or Acronis) to use the manufacturer tools...of your hard drive for basics tests & repairs.

Should he try compatibility mode when install? WD's Diag software might not like x64

Better yet, run as admin. It's fishy though because it wouldn't even run pre-boot using the burned ISO.

I don't think you can run a dos prog in Win 7 and that's why it won't load

If it's a DOS program, you need to run it outside of Windows with something like FreeDOS. But the ISO he burned should have worked and didn't.

WD Diags

The iso had Caldera dos in it. Caldera loaded on the boot but the screen went blank with no prompt or cursor. I am thinking this was because digdiag5.exe tried to load and could not.
As for the program inside Win 7 X64. I did run it as admin but I did not try a compatability mode. Like I said I was succesful in getting it to come up in windows but any diag I tried it said the disk cable was bad.
Now there floppy maker would not write to a floppy because it said it was write protected. There is nothing wrong with my floppies or the floppy drive. I have used it succesfully afterward to check it out.
I inquired with WD and the answer was to download the files I already had. I dl'd again and will retry and let you know.

Run everything as administrator and try compatibility mode as well.

WD (for Win)

OK. I ran the msi from an elevated prompt. Had to set the security. (special permits) on a directory it was trying to create before it could finish. When it failed after calling it up I tried compatability mode. The only choice was XP SP3. Here is the error it returns

That's enough for me. WD has a problem. There plenty of third party diag software. I am going to give WD tech a blast and go on. All my disks are working fine I was just going to prepare myself for the day when they weren't.

This reminds me of the time Intel had a bad processor that made math mistakes and they denied it for about three months and then had to replace the processors and wipe the egg off their face.
