What annoys you?

Whew! So its not just me....maybe I'll go back a few versions of either Ubuntu or Mint. I've used both under VBox, but would really liker to go native.

I've downloaded DreamLinux 5.0 and might give that a crack too. Its really just about getting familar with Linux, and working with something a littl bit different.

At work, apparently they don't like to listen.
I start at 7:30am. I have until noon basically to get done the larger part of what I do, and have to have phone calls made, everything scheduled and done by around that time.
So....I have roughly 4 hours to do what I need, and most days, it takes all 4 of them hours to get done in time.
Now, follow me here....
Our company uses software which runs updates daily(it's inventory control, IQMS), so they run it at 9AM. The system gets really slow, the servers are working so hard, that I can't do ANYTHING on the computer for roughly a half hour. Ok, 9:30 comes, and I can start to do some stuff, although it is still pretty slow, but guess what? They have the main, full backup set to run at 10AM. Now, that is 10 times worse than the inventory update. When I say screeching halt, I mean screeching halt. If I so much as try to maximize Outlook, it takes about 4 minutes to actually come up on screen. Today it took me about 8 minutes just to print out 2 pieces of paper.
This usually lasts about a half hour also, which means I have about an hour out of the 4 that I can't do anytihng. Bitching and pissing and moaning does no good, because it's convenient for the poeple in the office. So who cares about where the money is actually made, out in the plant.


On a side note, work related....
I know places are trying to cut back and save as much as possible, but when I have to be on hold with a trucking company to schedule a shipment pickup, it's annoying. There are specifically 4 companies that in no way can have enough people to answer the phones. today I was on hold for 10 minutes "until a customer service representative is available to take my call". About a month ago, it was 20 minutes before someone actually picked up. Hire more people to answer the phones, morons. It's not like these are small truck companies either, all of them are known nationally.

No, not just you mate

When going native, I give it's own partition and install GRUB on that partition so it doesn't 'hijack' The Windows bootloader. Then I use EasyBCD to add the distro to the Windows loader.

A little more dicking around initially, but worth it in the long run. Makes it a lot easier to remove the distro without affecting Windows either.

And yeah - the current distros are a bloody mess.
