Coffee and a blueberry muffin is far better than tea and crumpets, although a toasted crumpet dripping with butter and Marmite takes some beating in my view.

Ahh, just checked Wiki and it appears to be what we "colonists" call English muffins, tasty little bread like cakes.
And Marmite similar to Vegemite.

Vegemite is one of several yeast extract spreads sold in Australia. It is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract (a by-product of beer manufacture) and various vegetable and spice additives. It is very dark reddish-brown, almost black, in color, and one of the richest sources known of Vitamin B. It's thick like peanut butter, it's very salty, and it tastes like - well let's just say that it is an acquired taste!

in cornwall they have a cream tea, which is a cup of tea and scones with jam (jelly stateside) and clotted cream

Marmite is a beef extract and is something you either love or hate.

It's great on hot toast and butter, freshly baked crusty bread and butter and can also be taken as a hot drink.

I love it, but all my children hated it with a passion - they'll never know what they missed!

Marmite may be very good, but it doesn't sound very appealing to me. I'm almost tempted to look for it in the stores, but according to that wikipedia article, it's not likely to be in any of the stores that I shop.

EDIT: No, after checking the price on eBay, I will stick with my Nutella. It goes for ~ 23 cents per ounce vs $2.23 per ounce for Marmite, and I already know that I like Nutella very much.

Yummy .... seekermeister.. I have a jar on the end table by my recliner..
I just use a spoon since I'm the only one here.. eat it from the spoon, nothing else is needed.. although it would be even better on a hot buttered southern biscuit
For those who have no idea what it is .. looks like chocolate spread, ( the texture is a bit like peanut butter ).. made from grinding Hazelnuts, much as one does to make peanut butter from peanuts , it's a bit thicker in consistency .

I agree that it is good from the jar, but it is even better spread over a slice of Black Russian bread, more commonly known in the US as a type of Pumpernickel, but that is a misnomer. I saw an ad a few days ago for it on Hulu, where they recommended using either plain wheat or multi-grain, but that is not nearly as good.

EDIT: The only way that it is thicker than peanut butter, is that it takes longer to lick it from the spoon, but it is much more spreadable...at least compared to over-the-counter brands.

Yes , because I take my time getting every smidgen out of the spoon... lol..
I prefer " Natures Own " Honey Wheat bread.. the bread alone is wonderful.

I am a big iced tea drinker. I have gone to restaurants where the meal is $5.95 and the tea is $2.25. They are making a killing on the tea.

Hum seeker you'd like Promite out here the Marmite is'nt a scratch on the English brand and the Vegemite that is a "native" - well if you like brine you'd like that

Hiyya smarty ever tried Promite - but sweeter than Veggie I went over to it years ago as I missed the English Marmite - Veggie can take it or leave it.

Personally I like butter on toast and salt and ground pepper (not allowed to have dripping anymore)
