What size PSU? A lot of heat being expelled from it? I wouldn't go less than 750W with todays gear.

That doesn't sound like a power supply problem with your video card although I could be wrong, it actually sounds more like drivers. When mine needed upgrades I would get restarts with nothing in the logs to show why and memory / system diagnostics would show nothing either. I did an awful lot of upgrades before a new PSU was required however.

Definitely go with 750 watt PSU or better if you do upgrade. As I am using SLI dual video cards (and planning for future upgrades of drives, etc) I bought a 1250 watt PSU.

Changed a few power supplies now and both cause the computer to take much longer to view the manufacture main screen before boot up... Both failed shortly after... I live in an area where the power is very dirty... Even a USP device only last months here... GL :)

power supplies: Cooler master or Ultra are my choices. Someone pointed out a while ago that the Ultra PSU's carry a life time warranty if you register them. I missed this fact when I bought my cooler master or I might have bought another Ultra. I am very satisfied with my cooler master however. Watch the sizes as they do get larger when the power goes up, but not that much bigger and most higher wattage units should (repeat SHOULD) fit your case. Watch the depth (Length) which is what usually changes for higher wattage PSU's from my research. the Height and Width were consistently the same.
