What are safe graphics card temps? Is there a chart?

I have been playing on my old 8800 gts.

I decided to turn on 3d mode so i am playing portal/portal 2 in 3d full 1080p with pretty much maxed settings lol

I blow out the dust very often to not melt my card and to not bsd icnic:

Anyway according to some software i have maxed out my card, it's usage is pretty much at 100% all the time and my temps are going over 70c

Just wondering but when do temps start to get dangorus?

Also it there a program out there to boost my fan speed from 60% to 100%?

P.s. i do not over clock as that is just a good way to burn up $100 (sometimes much more) real fast

'Dangerous' is the cards thermal threshold which differ from card to card but high 90's/over 100c is not a temp you want to be seeing often (or at all really)


Under load:
60-70c is 'cool'
70-80c is 'warm' but okay
90c+ is hot and bad for longevity.

around 70c when under load is pretty normal i've had my card go to 65-74c when playing crysis 2 for over a hour and then idleing at around 45-50c when i stopped playing. Now if your idle temperature is 70c and when under load its way hotter then that then we have a problem.

You can easily configure various fan profiles according to the gpu load..

So in other words my card is absolutely fine and there is nothing to worry about.

I have always wanted to play crysis2 but never got that far as the 8800 goes to only dx 10 and i don't want to get it until i can play it at max settings with tessellation


The reason i asked is because those temps would be hot for a normal cpu but gpu's and cpu's are apples and oranges.

yes those temperatures for a gpu under load would be normal but your right for a cpu this would be extremely hot, like my cpu when under stress in crysis 2 it goes around 40-50c which is warm but still in the safe zone but when idle it is around 28-34c. A cpu at 70c would be a bit hot and would be recommend to get that problem solved especially if that were the idle temperature. So yes the standards temperature wise for gpus and cpus are on different levels so yes you can say there like comparing apples and oranges
