what are the correct settings for the ide dvd drive

I am putting together a computer using parts that I have lying around. Both hdd's are sata, one dvd drive is sata and the other is ide. My question is what are the correct settings for the ide dvd drive. Please help, have searched the internet for days, with no luck tying to find answer. Please help, as this is really starting to get on my nerves. Thank you, rftech

What are you talking about, just plug the data cord into the motherboard and plug the power connector into the dvd drive. That`s all you have to do.

Explain what else you mean if you`re still having problems.

It needs to be on an IDE port and set to Master.
Does you MB have an IDE port.

The drive should already be set to cable select.

There's no default setting for these drives. I always avoided cable select like the plague, and just set it properly from the get-go. As mentioned, connect the cables to the motherboard, and the other end to the drive. Set the drive as the Master, and give it power.

* This is all assuming you have an IDE port, and you have a need for both optical drives.

I thank you for your responses, I thought you set the drive to master, I was confused because some of the information I got off the internet said to set it to cable select. I have been told by several people to avoid cable select at all cost, so I have done that, when ever I install an optical or hard drive, I set them to Master or slave. I was looking for a second opinion and you guys provided that. Thanks again.
