What are the maximum frequencies that are available in core i7 process

What are the maximum frequencies that are available in core i7 processors now?

I ask this because I'm looking for a new desktop PC these days. I currently have an ancient core two duo Pentium D processor runninf at 3.4 GHz, surprisingly all the PCs I have found so far are either very close to this frequency or slower.

But you need to realize that processors of the current generation do more work per clock than do processors of earlier generations. So you have to consider more than the clock speed. Additionally, the type of work you will do on the PC should be considered. Finally, the motherboards used with newer processors typically have features and improved technology not found on older motherboards. You may or may not benefit from this improved technology, but you should at least be aware of it and examine it.
