Hey guys, I have a Gigabyte 870-UD3 motherboard and I also have two hard drives, One is a TB and the other is 500GBs, The TB one is the primary one at the minute and I was wondering does it matter what way my hard drives are connected to the motherboard? Will one slot make it slower or faster??
thank you for the answers and help =)

I am assuming the hard drives are SATA hard drives.
There will be no performance difference between different SATA connectors so you can use whichever you like.

Most modern drives will run at Ultra DMA Mode 5 or 6.

The drive with the OS I would put on port0 - but that is not for performance reasons.

a bit more information:

when you turn your computer on, the bios will look at port 0 first, and try to boot off that drive.

it is sort of equivalent to the 'master' drive.

if in the future, you want to swap drives (or add a new one) this info may be useful. :)

Your board has mostly 6 6Gb/s SATA ports, and 2 3Gb/s ports. I would use up the 6Gb/s ports first. You may get a slight performance improvement even with 3Gb/s disk drives. Other than that it really doesn't matter much which.

As for which drive your motherboard will boot off of - that is configurable, so it doesn't matter. Just get in your BIOS boot order menu and set it up to boot off of the port your boot device is on.
