What CPU Is Better? Core2Duo Or Pentium D?

Hello,
I recently bought my new motherboard a few days ago (manufacturer refurbished) since i'm on a very low budget

Anyway,
I am currently using the Pentium D 3.00GHz in my system at the moment since I manage to find one in a old system we had a good few years back.

I plan to do gaming, video editing, some 3D and intro making and web designing/browsing.
(yes i know it a old socket please don't bring that up the system still works)

So what would be better for these takes?

The intel pentium D 3.00Ghz or the Core2Duo 2.33Ghz?

I don't like the clock speed with the Core2Duo but I am not sure if that will effect anything.
I just had a look with CPU-Z they both have 2 cores.

Thanks!

Please answer asap that way I can make a decision of replacing my current cpu or leaving it in the system.

I would stick with the Pentium, I think it will have better instructions and work better.

Thanks and the clock speed is better especially when gaming clock speed does matter more so it might be best to stick with the pentium then.

Thanks for the answer ;)

I had a pentium before and that played games fine without any lag but that was for a newer socket think it was something like l335 (not sure on the exact socket number but it has the i3,5 etc..)

So i guess this might be similar.

I am not sure if the bios supports it but the seller said it supports Core2Duo and Penitum and it should also support most dual core processors for the socket type.

Thanks for the links I check them out and get back to you all when I make a decision. :D

Thanks

The Core2Duo does sound a lot more better and updated but would the clock speed bottleneck against most modern games :/ I'm not looking at games like Watch Dogs since that may be to graphics intensive but games like Sleeping Dogs,Battlefield and GTA IV etc..

I suspect your game play will be more dependent on the GPU than the CPU. The 650Ti is fairly capable but not for real high end games.

Would the core2duo improve the system performance better then the Pentium d then? If that's the case I swap the CPU's around tomorrow.
As for the GPU I only have pcie 1.0 so I can't go with anything to highend but as long as I can play games like sleeping dogs and record gameplay I don't mind.

Edit: What would be the best cpu on the list? and apparently the board is basic gaming or x-gaming from 2011 which is not that long ago.

I would expect the Core 2 Duo to be better, but only a test would bear that out. I'm running my 650ti in a PCIe 2.0 slot.

I read up the pcie versions don't really matter that much I don't have my 650ti at the moment need to re-buy it for now I'm not sure how to test both CPU's.

Will have do some Google searching to make a final decision besides the Pentium having a better clock speed the core2duo seems better.

Also what is the point of clock speed then the core2duo seems better even with a low clock rate :/

Right, the PCI versions don't have earth-shattering differences.
To test the CPUs, use what's in now and play games, surf or whatever you do normally, then swap the CPUs and do the same and take note how it runs with that one.

A Pentium D 830 running at 3.00 scores 648 on the Passmark benchmark.

A Core 2 Duo 6550 running at 2.33 scores 1504 on the same benchmark.

As I recall, the Core 2 generates noticeably less heat also.

I'd go with the Core 2 Duo hands down unless you had specific reasons to believe that the 3.00 clock speed of the Pentium D provided superior performance for your particular use case.

Pbcopter is correct, core 2 duo is newer and runs everything much better, problem is those older mobos(not all) cannot run core 2 cpu's. different voltage requirements, check specs of your mobo prior to purchase.....

I swap it over this afternoon then. Worried about it bottlenecking as some games required good clock speeds for some reason but its worth a try.

After moving the CPU around do I need to re-install windows never done a CPU upgrade on a machine with windows installed.

I guess clock speed is only there for decoration.

Its on the support list so why isn't it working MSI Global 945PL Neo

I tried 2 CPU's could it be that its detecting not thermal paste so it won't boot.

The intel pentium clocked at 2.0GHz doesn't work either guess there not supported.

I have looked on google but cannot find anything so where could I find the list of supported cpu's that are guaranteed to work on my ms-7175 board.

Such as life, guess it does not have the core2duo on the cpu list
MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more

I am not going to bother upgrading to another board again I have gone through 3 boards my first one broke down due to the seller selling faulty goods and the second board only had ddr1 which would never of went good when video editing etc, I guess I get some use out of this board and in a couple of years I look at upgrading or getting a whole new machine.
