Hello to all,
Using the standard first user/administrative account I have been able to stop processes and run programs like SAS, Commodo, Malwarbytes and install programs with no problem. Recently I have toyed(messed with Commodo Settings) and not remembering which. Now when I install a program I must use the run as administrator prompt. To run the above programs, I have to run as administrator. Even if I have changed the Compatibility mode to run as administrator. I can't stop processes in Task Manager as it says I need adminstrator privileges.
Does anyone have any idea of what I did wrong, or am I hacked. Using W7 Ultimate 64 bit. About the same time my recycle bin has not been clearing the trash out of the icon until reboot. That is using CCleaner, Windows Disk Cleaner or Winutilities.
A cry goes out to the members for assistance, thanks for any who can reply.

Glen... since the problem originated when you started changing your settings in Comodo, try doing a system restore to a point before the problem started, or, uninstall Comodo, then try reinstalling it to revert it to its default settings.. ;)

Good Day Golden,
Thanks for responding. The answer is no I have never gone near UAC in any form that recognized. Hope that helps.

Go to Start/search and type "accounts" in the search box. In the results window, click on "user accounts". Click on "change your account type". Do you get a UAC prompt? If so, enter the UAC password and continue. You should be at a window that looks like this:

Capture.JPG

Does yours say Administrator?
Also, in the compatibility tab, if you tell a program to "run as an administrator", you are password protecting the program to require administrative privileges and you will receive a UAC prompt when you open the program. If you don't want to be bothered with UAC every time you open a program, uncheck that box.
I don't believe changes you made to Comodo caused your UAC prompts, but I'm not familliar with Comodo.

+1 Tews.

Uninstall Comodo. You will have to uninstall to reset it to default since you don't remember what you changed.
It will never work right as is even if it is not causing all the other problems.
So start there.

Then you can check other things as mborner has suggested.

Uninstall Comodo off line. Check how things work off line before reinstall Comodo. No interference for sure from Comodo if it isn't there.

Then reinstall at your leisure.

Back again with good news and I can't decipher information. Reinstalling seems to allow me access to the programs without the need of the UAC prompt. I checked the User Account and it took me into that page without giving me a UAC box. Is that good or bad?
Thanks all,

It's good that your problem is solved, it's bad that you are now running strictly as an administrator. To keep your system safer, you'll need to create a standard user account and use it in day to day operations.

Well Gentlemen thanks for a job well done. I do have a separate plain user account although I've been questioned as to why on the forum. Old habits die hard.
The fact that I can get to Users Account without a UAC box indicates what?????
Thanks again.

One other point:
I haven't used Comodo, but my understanding is that you can import and export configuration settings. If that is so (and since there seems to be no revert to default settings function), I recommend exporting the settings so that you can import them to restore back to default if this ever happens again. Also, export before you change settings.

It could also serve you well to create a system restore point before you change them:

Why are you using Comodo? Win7 firewall works perfectly well with one of the two highest recommended free AV programs here, MS Security Essentials or Avast. There is no performance hit whatsoever and no issues which always come up with 3rd party firewall.

What is the WinUtilities program you refer to? If it is a tweaking suite it is not needed in Win7 at all. It's already a perfectly balanced OS which is as lean as it can get. Anything beyond normal system settings in Win7 will come back to bite you.

I originally some months back asked why you had set up a standard account beyond the quasi-Admin account the installer sets up for owners. I now think it is a good idea for you to run under such a standard account only with full UAC.

Howdy James Colbert,
Thanks for chipping in the discussion. What I need to do is to learn all the functions of Comodo. Seriously spend a day looking over and understanding each function. I have yet to have the tenacity. The last two times I have used System Restore Points they didn't work correctly, so I prefer to rely on a system image.
That is a good thought though, maybe worth the try.

Hey Dude,
How ya been? I am using Comodo as it was tested and the only firewall to pass all the tests 100%. And again I like programs that interact with me and I choose what is good or not. WinUtilities is just another registry checker, junk cleaner. I use it occasionally as it is much more intrusive(dangerous from my point of view) than CCleaner. I am glad you have come over to my side of using a standard account for daily use, it started when I was running linux. It is a bit more protection. Reading about the new non-deleteable cookies and where they can be hid, makes me more anxious. So I don't usually just trust one product. I run my AV and have MSE non-running with no processes I believe and just once a week let it check my regular AV. Have SuperAntispyware portable to double check my AntiMalwarebytes.
Secunia to check that I am as safe and updated as is possible depending on the programs I'm using. I have some peace of mind, in my own way.
Thanks for the alternate viewpoints, I appreciate your time and questions.
