Hello,
I just want o knwo if i can install a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version from this cd?
I got a copy rom a friend of mine and on the cd it said w7u x86 x64....
I am confused because i have 32 bit version(x86) and i want x64....is it possible for both versions to be on this cd?
If so...how can i choose the x64?
And another thing...after installing the x64 version...can i run a backup from the x32?
In the idea not to spend t much time to reinstall all the drivers....or that would be a bad idea?
Best regards

Hello Wyzo, and welcome to th Windows Seven Forums.

32 Bit (x86) - You use this when you have 4GB of RAM or less.
64 Bit (x64) - This is for a computer running over 4GB of RAM - this can still be installed on a System with Over 4GB of RAM, but it will only show and use 4GB

To check how much RAM you have, go to Control Panel/System.

on the cd it said w7u x86 x64
- I think that means it can install 32 or 64 Bit depending on what you select

If you want 64 Bit OS, and you do not have enough RAM, you will need to get more.

This will tell you your current OS too.

Explain in more detail what you mean about the Backup situation.

This link may help, there are plenty of tutorials out there on how to install Windows 7.

Thanks,
Joe.

A retail installation disk usually contains both x86 and x64 versions of Windows.

At least in the US, the retail package includes separate DVDs for the 32 and 64 bit versions.

That's almost a distinction without a difference, though.

Need to make a correction here to avoid confusion: it's the x86 (32-bit) version of Windows that may be installed on systems with more than 4GB RAM but won't recognize anything above 4GB.
In fact, it will usually show 3.25GB or even less of usable RAM due to memory mapping for motherboard devices and PCI cards.
