What Does Shared Graphics Memory Mean?

I have an HP laptop with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with shared graphics memory. I was wondering what this meant. Whenever running the windows experience index my complex graphics score is the lowest. Thanks

In computer architecture, Shared Memory Architecture (SMA) refers to a design where the graphics chip does not have its own dedicated memory, and instead shares the main system RAM with the CPU and other components.
