What does this BSOD Information Mean?

Windows Update has toasted my os. After restarting my computer to install some updates, Windows will not load. The trouble is like this:
1)BSOD
2)Goes to "Windows is loading files"
3)"Startup Repair is checking your system"
4)"Windows cannot repair this computer automatically"
5)Computer turns off; I turn it back on & keep getting the same messages as above.

I ran MemTest86+ to test the RAM & the test reported no RAM problems.
I next ran HD Tune Pro hard drive diagnostic test which reported no hard drive problems.

BSOD Information
A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

Any Idea as to what the BSOD means? Hardware/software issue??

HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor PC- Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz, 4 GB DDR2, 500GB Sata HDD, Combo
DVD/CD Player Drive

Boot into System Recovery Options preferably on the booted installer or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair repeatedly. If this fails from the Options list try System Restore to before the problem occurred. This resolves most Windows Updates failures to boot.

Otherwise work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

I believe it is related to your hard drive.
