been thinking about getting mass effect 2 but everyone is telling me i need to play 1 first? any thoughts?

i played mass effect 1 first but didn't finish it, then jumped 2 ME2 and finished that. so its your choice really. but if you play the firts one than the second one, you're really gonna appreciate the improvements

yeah, i suppose it helps with understanding the story.

if that sort of thing is important for your immersion, then go for it!

My friends and I played L4D A LOT and we couldn't wait for L4D2. I loved 2 when it first came out and played it constantly. But we keep going back to 1. I can't put my finger on it as to why (maybe the nostalgia of the original) but any new add-on campaign that comes out for the original we play (there are some really good ones). LOVED "The sacrifice".

we need to hook up on co-op i love playing with new people especially if they are already seasoned i have been playing more left4dead 2 then number one due to melee but im still good with louis and the auto shotty

It helps. Plus importing your save game from ME1 is pretty cool and carrying on in ME2 with the same character. ME1 is still a great game too. Definitely worth playing. It will most likely be in this years Steam Christmas sale again for a nice price, as well as ME2.

Anyways for the Gamer's here Steam is having another holiday sale..... Steam Sales, Specials, and Price Drops

I just purchased Mirror's Edge for $14.99 and FEAR Complete Pack (all the FEAR games plus FEAR 2 Reborn DLC) for $9.99

I already had all the FEAR games except Reborn, but having them all through steam now is a plus.

One thing to note on FEAR Complete pack purchase.... If you already have FEAR 2, you still pay the same $9.99 but you won't get an Extra FEAR 2 game. In short, If you have FEAR 2, you won't be getting it again (at least not on the same Steam account). I'm good with that though - $9.99 + DLC =

Anyway expect long download times cause, well.... its a sale going on

Oh and Mass Effect 1 & 2 is da bomb. You gotta play 1 if you're going to play 2, definitely helps with the story. Great Great games

still plugging away in The Witcher - lots to learn..

have just downloaded and installed the Vietnam add-on for BF-BC2

love the 60's soundtrack, but the vets are just creaming the noobs online..
lost track of the number of times I've been zapped by someone Level 30 and up..
gotta get to grips with tactical squad play - work as a team and all that..
must spend some time studying the maps for good approach play, too..

- also gotta find a good noob-only server - I'm still stuck at Level 16 (!!)

Currently boring myself to death with Fallout New Vegas. God what a buggy boring mess of a game. And this is coming from someone who couldn't get enough of Fallout 3

i heard that it's same Fallout 3 but with different story

oh yeah! this year i'm ready for it. last year i only got 2 or 3 games. now i got more moneys in my piggy bank. looking forward to ME2

first one i played 2 times. first as paragon and second as renegade (even killed wrex). i think i'm gonna load that save in ME2

wow, Witcher2 sure is a good looking game - can't wait..!!

NWN1 was cool, as well
- but The Witcher has really good controls and combat
- that was the only thing that prevented me from really enjoying NWN2
- the camera just didn't seem right
- almost as if the sandbox were too small..

- have they improved that at all, 'cos NWN2 looks like it ought to be a half-decent game..?

That's pretty much true although there are some added features - notably you get to have travelling companions with special skills. The game play is pretty much the same - seek & fetch.

Think I did the right thing with hanging on to buy it then. It's £15 on Amazon already, so I'll pick it up sometime in the new year.

To be clear, if you liked Fallout 3 and its game play then Fallout New Vegas is pretty much the same, other than a new location, and the added benefits of companions.

That's the problem, not enough changed to make it feel different, especially game play, so after a while you become bored because you're constantly doing the same thing you did in Fallout 3.... seek, fetch, & chat em up as mickey said. It literally feels like a huge expansion instead of a separate game.

Add to this all the bugs and problems it has and it becomes something you're not in a hurry to play or finish. It's one of those I've got nothing better to do games

Yea that's why I'm glad I didn't buy it at release, as from what I saw it didn't look that great. I'll get it, for the reason you said, just for the sake of having a game to play while I wait for other stuff like Assassins Creed 3 and Crysis 2.
