What happens after 20 starts with Office2007 Home&Stud

I bought a notebook with an already pre-installed Office 2007 Home & Students version. After entering an inital key and start of Word2007
I am prompted to register additionally my installation.

I prefer not to do this/reveal an minimum of ´personal information as possible.
So what happens after 20 starts?
Is this installation not usable any more?
or is only the functionality reduced?

Hello Peter,

After the trial period the total function of Office application will be disabled. You can veiw the Word documents but can't edit them so you might wanna purchase them and once you register it then it will be fully functional or You can download Office 2010 Beta version.

Sorry to butt in here, but activation and registration are two completely things. If Office has been activated with the correct key, then registration is completely optional. if you choose not to register, your Office install will work just fine even after 20 restarts. Heres what MS says about it.

"At the completion of the activation process for your software, you will have the option to register your software with Microsoft. Registration is not the same as activation. While activation is required in order for your software to work correctly, registration is optional and is completely separate from activation. When you register your software, Microsoft can send you customized information and offers regarding future products, as well as provide you with improved product support and product update information.
During the registration process, the software will ask you to enter information in a number of fields, including your name, e-mail address, and other information. Any information that you enter into these fields will be sent to Microsoft and stored in a subscription profile database.
Microsoft uses this subscription database to determine your preferences for product offers and services that may interest you. Microsoft does not share or sell your information with any third parties except companies acting as agents who perform services on Microsoft’s behalf. We will only provide those companies the personal information they need to deliver the service. They are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information and are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose."

I am having a similar problem to pstein above with my pre-installed Office 2007. I have chosen not to register as I already had to purchase Office Home & Student 2007 CD when I bought my Notebook in January 2010 as part of the 'deal'. I didn't have internet access at the time until late February as my internet provider was having problems and was very late in sending me out a router so I couldn't register anything on my new HP Pavilion Notebook and which I had declined to do anyway (having already purchased a full copy of Office Home & Student CD with the Notebook in January). I have not installed this CD yet and wondered what would happen to the documents I had already started in the 60 day trail version that was already installed on my Notebook. Will I also have to uninstall the 60 trial copy before I install the full version? I am a novice and new user. Can someone advise me what to do next, please?

If the preinstalled version of Office that came with your computer is the same as the one for which you have a valid key (Home and student 2007), just enter the key in the trial edition. That will convert it into a full working edition. However, if it is different, you need to uninstall the trial edition and then install your purchased edition. And dont worry, nothing will happen to your documents. They wil open with whatever Office suite you have installed, they will not disappear if you uninstall the trial edition.
