what If i could not find the vendor of the device using mac address

Hi,

When I searched for a unknown device shown in my router, and copied the mac address and searched in mac lookup online sites, most of them have given 0 results.
Should I think, that this device is a new and not updated in the mac data base
Or is it a harmful device spying on me
How do I find the device name and its vendor
Is it harm, if I publish the mac address here in the forum
please advise.
Avast also list that as unknown device.

this is most likely to be a harmless item showing on your list of attached devices due to there being a limited number of IP Address ranges for home networks. the most common range used for individual is the IP address range of 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255. this may seem a lot of addresses, and it is, but router manufacturers tend to use either 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255 or 192.168.1.0. to 192.168.1.255

In areas of higher density of users the allocated address of a device on one network setup can be close enough to show on another network setup that uses the same IP range.

Now, as long as you set your own reasonably complex password and use this on your devices there is no real chance of the device you see being able to see the contents of your devices. one thing you can try is the change your own router to another IP address range - say 192.168.111.0 to 192.168.111.255 or similar - only change the RED numbers and only within a range of 0 to 255.

If the unknown device shows up again then you may have someone piggy backing on your system if this is the case then change your password on your router to a complex password
