Solved what is actually waking computer? (WOL)

I've had this issue with my computer from the beginning. I know I can disable WOL in the BIOS but how can I see what program/file is actually waking my system? My motherboard has two Ethernet ports and both of them behave the same way.

You should be able to check in Command prompt with this command.
powercfg -lastwake

Maybe you can find it also with Event Viewer>Windows logs.

I did powercfg and it just lists my Ethernet port. Not the actual program. Something has to be requesting or trying to send information.

Have you tried checking with Event Viewer?Maybe service will be listed there.
Maybe some task is scheduled.

From an elevated command prompt enter this command and see if you have requests:
powercfg -requests

If you have requests, post a screen print, and i'll try to help override them.

Thanks. I'll see what I find when it does it again. If I leave the computer alone it will wake every 30 minutes.

I have nothing listed in -requests.

I'm in Event Viewer. What would I need to look at to see what keeps waking the computer every 30 minutes?

Well since Ethernet controller is waking up your computer you can stop it:

Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center >Left click on Local Area Connection > Properties >Configure>Power Management tab>Untick Allow this device to wake the computer >OK

Also in power options:
Choose your power plan>Change plan settings>Change advanced power settings>Sleep>Allow wake timers>Disable>OK

You've disabled them now?if so;
Check again will computer wake up from sleep.

It does the same thing with wake timers disabled.
After 30 minutes it will go to sleep, then turn right back on.

Well, you can always disable WOL.
If computer is waking up on exactly 30 minutes after sleep there might be some timer set that uses ethernet controller to wake up the computer.

This is how it happens:
I leave the computer alone, after 30 minutes it will go to sleep. Then it will immediately turn back on. This will occur over and over if I don't mess with the computer (while watching TV I can hear the computer turn on and off).

Oh,so you've set computer to sleep after 30 minutes of no use;but that's quite a strange behavior to sleep and wake up and sleep...
Disabling WOL makes a difference?

Your ethernet controller is probably preventing your computer to go to sleep and it ends up in those sleep-wake up cycle.

I disabled WOL before and that "fixed" it but I'm wondering why would it wake from sleep immediately. Should I disable WOL in the BIOS or within Windows?

Is there a program (or maybe a hacker) sending a WOL request? That's what I'm trying to determine.

Well since it doesn't bother you anymore I would leave WOL off.
Cause of ethernet controller waking up your computer may be schedule task,packets of data,setting preventing it to turn off in sleep,hacker,etc.

Check if anyone who should not be,is connected on your network with some software like Wireless Network Watcher - Show who is connected to your wireless network.And if no one is you're safe ,it's not a hacker.

I'm going to leave the computer alone in a little bit and see if it's fixed.

Update:
The computer is no longer turning on after it goes to sleep. I still find it strange that it would wake right after going into sleep mode.

It is probably a conflict between WOL and sleep mode.Hence ethernet controller was waking up the computer and the computer was going back to sleep because it was supposed to and ethernet would wake it up again and on and on..

Sorry we couldn't find the root of the problem.

fyi, Where i've had a PC wake immediately after sleep, i found a wireless mouse caused the wake-up.
That doesn't seem to be the issue for what you see.

Also, i disable everything that could wake the PC (that i don't want), including WOL in BIOS and in Windows device power management.

The only way i can wake my systems from sleep or hibernate is pushing the PC power button, or clicking on a WMC compatible remote to wake the PC.
I have 2 PC's, 6 OS's, use a KVM switch, and multiple monitors/keyboards/mice, so it has been challenging for me to get sleep working correctly all the time

If you have it working the way you want, be happy and remember the settings in case something changes some setting going forward
