Why do I have like 20 Visual C++ install thingiemabobs in my uninstall-window?
-Can I get rid of some?

Yes. It would be the equivalent of uninstalling a service pack from Windows.

Although the setting of downloads to manual or ask can allow you to control what updates are installed on your system, I would advise caution when doing this.

If you are not sure what a particular update is for it is difficult, to say the least, to ensure that you install the ones you actually need.

many of these updates are security related and close vulnerabilities that have been discovered in software, so if you decide to change from automatic updates please ensure that you fully investigate every update offered before deciding not to install
