Solved What is the default disk space usage for system protection?
I was doing to some research and found out that my system protection usage is using 226 GB. For some reason it is at 53%.
Can I delete the restore points w/o causing harm to my computer? What is in those files?
If I decide to delete, what is the recommended size should it be? I have a 500GB HHD

Deleting them is perfectly safe, just turn off system protection then turn it back on again. You can set it to whatever you want.
Why don`t you just make a fresh image.

With your disk I would recommend a 20GB shadowstorage (that's where the restore points are being stored). The command is:
vssadmin resize shadowstorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=20GB
Just paste that command into an elevated command prompt and hit Enter. A single restore point is between 500MB and 1GB. So the 20GB should give you space for appr. 30 restore points.
And keep an eye on Avast. DavidE is right, Avast corrupts the shadowstorage size.
