I am looking st new HDD's as it looks like I have 2 failing on my machine http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/133112-hd-failing.html

What is the difference between Green, Blue, Yellow etc. etc. drives. Does the colour denote anything in particular and which is the best to replace mine with (storage only as OS will be on a different drive).

Thanks, but it doesn't answer my question about which one to go for, and what the colours mean.

Rule of thumb:

Use black for operating system.

Use green for backup storage where speed is not a major factor.

Green drives use less power and might save you $3 or so per year if operated 12 hours a day.

Blues are a great compromise is you want to stick with one color. A current blue is likely faster than most drives of say 3 years ago.

You aren't likely to notice the difference for most operations outside of booting and opening applications.
