What is the player doing?

Everytime I put in a cd and windows comes up the audio is choppy. I stop and restart sometimes waiting a few seconds and then its fine. It seems like as soon as I put in a disc something else is trying to run at the same time causing this problem. Any thoughts as to what is doing this? I have a Gateway pc.

My guess would be that either Rip or Sync are the culprits
