What is the total number of fans in your rig.

Yes a new and exciting thread. No this isn't a competition but an exercise in cooling idea's. Yes I have a good number of fans spinning in my case and believe it or not it's very quiet. No I haven't a single free spot to place another.

16 fans counting my side panel 200mm not shown.

I have 10 noctua fans spining & 1 random fan I had left over, counting the GPU and PSU I have a total of 13 fans in my 800D

A whole 5 total. Two 120 mm front and back, 140 mm on top and the CPU and video card fans. Have space for 2 more 120 mm, but temps at the moment don't require them.

Im with you there Just because you have alot of fans mean nothing after a while it is just over-kill


You can have 12 fans blowing in the case but if the temps have already hit peak operation status that's all your going to get sometimes less fans gives a better peak on performance because you don't have 20 other fans blowing around counteracting the other fans

Its true, when I added my 3 last fans I noticed nothing in temps or well maybe 1-2 degrees celcius BUT I did noticed the air that was coming out of the case was cold and not that lukewarm or hot air so they are doing something but maybe just not bringing down the temps

I agree. A lot of fans might seem a good idea to some, but unless your case is designed for so many and you pay careful attention when installing them (orientation and air flow rate), you can run into problems where the natural air flow is disrupted to such an extent that instead of helping to cool your system you are inadvertently helping to keep it warm or hot.

Not counting the CPU/GPU/PSU fans, I only have 2 on my system. It should be remembered that the function of any fan is to assist with the natural flow of air through the system.

I'm very happy and as I've added very tight mesh filter material for all intakes this works well for dust but cuts down air flow. Please post any interior shots of the fans as I hope that people will get ideas for air flow. I live in an area where in Summer the room ambient will exceed 90f so extra cooling is the only way my system remains in a safe zone.

Let's see,
The small fan on my Intel Stock cooler on my Q9550 CPU
The fan on my eVGA GTX 570 video card.
There is also a fan in my Corsair HX 620 power supply.

3 x 120mm case fans. 1 in the top, 1 in the upper back, and 1 between my hard drive cage and my power supply at the bottom. All of these are Antec Tri-Cool's and are set at the lowest speed possible. I'm about 99% ready to shut down that one between the hard drive cage and power supply as I don't find it needed at all.

1-140mm rear out.

2 on CPU-120mm ScytheKaze-Jyuni PWM fans on a Scythe "Mugen-2 Rev.B" cooler. Push/pull.
3 fan PWM harness. Third fan will fit cooler but unneeded so it is a spare.

Good idea. I have 3 grills on the side panel of my case, and they are clearly drawing air in as they are covered in dust. Should also help to keep the inside of my case cleaner. This won't prevent the mesh openings from being covered in dust, but it should prevent that dust from being drawn into my case.

I think I might have found a use for an old pair of tights (not mine, I hasten to add).

Alternatively, I might have a look to see if I can get any vacuum cleaner filters that might do the job.

Tights? Do you mean like stretching panty Hose over the inside of the grills to use as a dust filter?

I have done that before and it works very well. Keeps alot out of the inside of the case, and cheap to do.

I like it.....used nylons.....not just for robbing banks anymore! My filters get a weekly vacuum and they do seem to help. I did speed control the replacement 50mm's as under a full 12v they sounded like little jet engines in flight....not good.

I have 4:

Intake 500 rpm blowing over hard drives.

Exhaust 800 rpm

CPU cooler, normally running about 1200 rpm

PSU fan, but it doesn't begin to rotate unless temps get above a certain level---that has never happened, so it has never spun at all.

I can't hear any noise at all from my system. I used to hear a bit of "whooshing" from the front intake, but that went away when I went to a 500 rpm fan rather than 800 rpm.

I'd much rather have 40 degree temps and silence than 35 with some noise.

I'm building a new box to be a replacement to my home file server. I'm planning on 1 x 120mm case fan. That's it. I can almost hear you guys cringe

2x140mm front
1x140mm top exhaust
1x120mm rear exhaust

The three 140mm are on a fan controller, bet even on full tilt they aren't 'noisy', just audible.

+Psu, 2 GPU, 2 CPU

9 total fans.


Previous case (Haf 932)

12 case fans.

2x120mm Front intake
4x120 Side intake
3x120mm Top exhaust
1x120mm Rear exhaust
1x120mm 'behind the hard drive cage'
1x120mm on the bottom intake/exhaust (it made no difference tbh)

Looking back now, case fan 'overkill' was a hobby unto itself. Unnecessary to have so many fans, but it was fun nevertheless.

Between swapping cases and going from 12 case fans to four - the only real 'temp increase' I've noticed has been the motherboard 'ambient' temp. Every other component is virtually the same. Maybe a few degrees hotter here and there.
