What is the verdict on MSKB3161608 - June 2016 update rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1?

I see that MSKB3161608 includes quite a few patches, including MSKB3161647 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 2016. In the past, I think some people mentioned MS possibly slipping in some Win10 crap with patches to the Windows Update Client.

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, does MSKB3161608 (or MSKB3161647) include any nasties, Win10 garbage, or MS-suprises?

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, is MSKB3161608 a recommended install?

Actually, you still can upgraded to Windows 10 as this will end on July 2016, as announce.
I refuse to install, as i am used to Windows 7.

I think you can do it, because it keep showing when going to MSN website.
Try it, as it may works.

Sometimes i don't understand why people so like to do update this patch that so on....
When it is good and ready, Windows update will push to your pc, definitely.
You can go > Start --> Windows update, then it pop-up to remind to upgrade to Windows 10 (was downloaded into my pc.)

Thanks for your reply, but I think you understood the question backwards. The question is for systems that are *not* going to be "upgraded" to Windows 10 (intentionally).

I haven't installed it. While it does include the latest Windows update client so should speed up Windows update. I have stuck with just installing the WU Client from March instead. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3138612

I'm not a big fan of rollups as you don't really know what's included in them and I tend to skip a lot of recommended updates anyway. I currently have 41 which stay in my optional list.
But, it's entirely up to you, some people install every update.

RE: KB3161608 - I have not installed it. I'm not having any problems with Windows Update. The rollup is supposed to include the following:

KB3154228 32-bit icons can't be loaded in OleLoadPictureEx in Windows
KB3153727 Windows Installer with certain actions can't be installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
KB3161647 Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 2016

KB3161639 Update to add new cipher suites to Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge in Windows

The only items of interest to me are:

On the surface, I don't see any Win10 stuff, but I don't want MS to get sneaky and slip something in with the Windows Update Client.

There isn't anything Windows 10 related in that update. And now that the free upgrade offer is ending soon, I doubt they'll slip anything relating to 10 in future updates.

I sure hope not. And hopefully the Windows Update version in that rollup doesn't have any Windows 10 offers or telemetry.

The WU client updates all include the wu.upgrade.ps.dll file which does place a windows 10 offer ad in the control panel (see below).
However, this ad doesn't seem to trigger unless you have KB2952664 and the GWX app (KB3035583) installed too.
The benefit of faster updates is worth it over that one file. And that will be removed once the free upgrade offer expires at the end of the month.
